tags - incorrect

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes:
I've just added our 3rd graphic novel to our catalogue and wanted to check if the other 2 were tagged. I found another one very incorrectly tagged as a graphic novel on the 'Main page'. https://www.librarything.com/work/15155991/book/132769604

This book (Rivertime by Trace Balla) is a children's picture book, not a graphic novel.
Is there a way to get rid of that incorrect tag? Perhaps it came up automatically when someone was cataloguing another book with the same title?

Nope - someone used the tag for their copy of the book (or a few someones) so it shows up on the work. Anyone can use any tags they want - regardless of anyone else thinking them correct or not.

I may tag picture books as graphic novels as well - as my library does not have a lot of picture books, they’d get lumped with the rest of the graphic works basically for me. So even if it seems incorrect, it really is not an illogical tag. Not that we would be able to do something even if it was really incorrect.

Another question about the book mentioned: when I go to the main page there is only the default cover, but there is an Amazon cover available. Is it possible to get the main page to show that cover? If so, how?

Try clicking "Recalculate cover" on the bottom right.

>3 wester: I assume you mean there is a cover on Amazon itself because I don't see any offered on LT. You can upload a cover, either your own photo or by grabbing one from the web. If you click on 'change cover', you'll see both options.

In cases where there are covers already available, you'll see below first member-uploaded ones and then Amazon provided covers. (A warning - Amazon covers can change or disappear, so if you want to be certain yours will be stable, you should always choose something hosted on LT, meaning either by other members or your own.)

>1 VicRML: Something you have to realize here on Librarything, there is no such thing as an incorrect tag.

Yes, for you, a tag system exists that should be this way and precise. That's your system. As long as your books conform to your system, things are great. IF you place the wrong tag on a book, then you can go change it.

However, once you get to the work level, all tags are valid. What you use for your system does not equate to what the millions of other users equate to each of their individual systems. Just because one person says a book isn't something, that doesn't mean 50 others think it does. When checking tags for "correct" notes, only check your book in your catalog. The work page can't change. Even with impassioned pleas in the forum.

As for the cover showing VicRML's default: I always try to scan and upload covers as each book is catalogued, and all volunteers try to get this done as they work as well. Everyone knows they will have to sit in the corner with a special hat if they even think Am&$#0*. So if cover is missing it's because we were working without the scanner on or - ssshhhh - there was a terrible episode many months ago when LT lost (and restored most of) a pile of our records. Without scans recovered.

>6 gilroy: I did again check inside VicRML's 'all collections'. Have a look at what I saw: https://www.librarything.com/catalog/VicRML&deepsearch=graphic+novel

And although I had not tagged the book as 'graphic novel' you can see that it came up in VicRML as one. And, there is no tag or reference to graphic novel anyplace in the VicRML page for it. That's where I thought all the information put in by an individual member remained as entered.

If one of our borrowers wants to have a weekend binge of all of our 3 graphic novels, they'll be sent down the river with them. ;-)

>6 gilroy: PS I don't bother with the work page. It holds nothing I need so far.

>7 VicRML: Well the search string given in this post actually is looking just at Title and Author. The title in that search has "graphic novel" as part of it, after the second colon.

The book given in the initial post does not include graphic novel as one of YOUR tags. It does include it in the tags from the gathered work.

>8 VicRML: If you aren't interested in anything else, at least the work title and author give you an indication of whether or not your book is in the right work.

>5 SandraArdnas: As well, if you put the url code for the Amazon cover into the box that says “or grab one from the web” it becomes an LT member added cover and will not change.
