An article in the sunday NY Times highlights a new generation of Peruvian writers namely--Alonso Cueto's novel 'The Blue Hour' and Santiago Roncagliolo's 'Red April' and Daniel Alarcon's 'War by Candlelight'. Whether the first two are available in English yet I don't know--ther are excerpts translated by Edith Grossman (a wonderful translator) available at the times under Literary Lima at:

These books apparently are very much set in the 80's and 90's and concern the political situation then in Peru and concerned themselves at least somewhat with the terrorist organization the Shining Path.

The two by Cueto and Roncagliolo are not yet available in English apparently--although maybe Ms. Grossman is working on them. In any case they both sound pretty interesting Bert. I did order the one by Alarcon on the Half.com site so give me a month or two for it to come in and me to read it and I'll probably want to review that one.
