I've just had an interesting little conversation with my 17-year old. A couple of days ago I'd mentioned the saying "When Adam delved and Eve span, Who was then the gentleman?", but mangled the words, so when I came across Burne Jones's frontispiece to William Morris's A dream of John Ball and a king's lesson in Parenthesis 18 that I was adding to LT, I showed it to her.
I mentioned that the two babies at Eve's feet would be Cain and Abel, and that according to the story one would grow up to murder the other. And she mentioned that she'd recently come across that, watching clips of "Lucifer" on YouTube.
As a famiy, our starting "cultural Christian" threshold is pretty mixed (I'm ex-RC grammar school, enough to put anyone off religion, although I still get most of the references, while my wife is third generation "none", and for example found the whole idea of BVM and BVM-blue roadside grottoes hilarious the first time we went to Ireland). I knew we'd raised a couple of heathens. But I hadn't realised quite how heathen ...

She'd love Venice. It's all "turn left at the Madonna". Sure, but which Madonna? I think there's one (at least) on every street.

>1 Cynfelyn: I still see quite a few what we call 'Mary in a Bathtub' statues on people's lawns here on Long Island, in New York State. I also went to RC school until I was 13, where I was sufficiently lied to and abused to make a heathen of me for life. Didn't have the same effect on all of my eight older siblings, however.
I wanted my kids be raised 'without,' BTW. My husband was raised First Reformed Dutch, and was not inclined to indoctrinate our kids.

Jesus Mary Joseph?
That's the modern "holy family," replacing the medieval one of Anne Mary Jesus. I think the earlier matrifocal one is more "heathen," but I don't identify as Roman Catholic, so I don't have a dog in the hunt.

I keep selecting Removed and it keeps reappearing. I opened a Bug report.
This would make a great book title: The Case of the Reappearing Cum

I'm not sure how someone with this mentality ( >7 Drystol: ) can expect to be a group admin...

>24 gilroy: Ahh! Thank you. I gave up looking at that group after glancing at his thread about how great he was. I'm sure he's just a child, but still...
Edited to add: I found his comments about wanting to be an admin. Had to reply. https://www.librarything.com/topic/329652#7764277

He could at least catalogue some of his manga.
The group has a lot of members, but if you look at the folks who've joined since the beginning of the year, very few have catalogued any books.
