Crazy4reading (Monica) ROOTs in 2022

So I am going for 20 ROOTs this year. My goal is to read all my own books besides the few that are for my Library Book Club books.

Here is a little about me. I am a divorced woman with 2 adult children that live on their own. My daughter, Samantha, is married to her HS sweetheart, Rob. They have my only grandchild Ruby (she will be 2 this year in May!) My son, Brandon, lives in Chicago with his partner/fiancé Christian. (As far as I know they have not married yet). This past year my son got into a small bike accident. He was on his way to work and a guy was getting out of his car and didn't look before opening his door and my son's bike hit the door and he flew over the door. He did learn one thing from his accident and that is to WEAR a HELMET!! He was lucky and knows it. I am also happy that he was wearing his contacts and not his glasses otherwise it would have been worse for him.

I will try to share a picture or two or more of my granddaughter. I just have to remember how to do it.

I am also dating a guy who doesn't always get my wanting to read or my love of Harry Potter. He enjoys teasing me. He does enjoy reading but he has a problem and finds it hard to read. He reads slow. I don't mind. He enjoys reading about things he likes such as WWII, Music, Drumming, Hitler and more. I prefer to read and be left alone at times, even when I am over his place and he is watching a show or doing his chores.

I finished my first book of the year. It was a short one.

1. Hitchcock's Henchmen by Cathleen Jordan

I don't remember where I obtained this book. I just decided to pick it up to read it. The stories were all interesting and quick reads.

5 stars.

Well I finished my second book for my ROOTs this year!! My plan is to read more of my own books instead of library books.

#2. Skipping Christmas by John Grisham

This was an entertaining and quick book to read. I enjoy John Grisham books and this was different from the other books of his that I have read.

The Kranks have decided to skip Christmas since their only daughter is await in the Peace Corps in Peru. Luther and Nora make all these plans. Their friends are shocked that they would skip Christmas.

The ending was a nice heartfelt ending.

I do have books to add to my lists. I have been reading. My time has been taken up with going through my dads stuff, mainly pictures. It has brought back some wonderful memories. Last week my sister and I were going through pictures and we found some pictures that we found funny and adorable but realized that some would find them in distaste. We also found a book, album (not exactly sure what you would call it) of our parents honeymoon trip. They documented the whole trip. My father recorded the cost had a schedule for when they would wake up, go to chuch, eat breakfast. There are short poems in it too. I also found a letter my mother wrote to her "husband" on hotel stationary. I cried when I read the letter. I shared pictures of these things with my sister and now she wants me to bring it back so that we can go through it together.

Today I had to go to a funeral. My daughter's husband lost his mother on June 12th in a house fire. It was a tragedy that left his sister, her fiance and their baby homeless. I am just happy that her child and fiance made it out of the house/apartment. I was babysitting my granddaughter when all this transpired. They had gone out for some quality time together and his phone was blowing up. His mother was in the hospital with 3rd degree burns over most of her body. His sister and him had to make the decision.

I have been keeping a positive outlook on life and just living my life as best I can. I have just been lurking in the threads.

Hi Monica! What an awful thing happened to the family of your son-in-law! That is really very shocking.

Good to read your sister and you have those special things to remember your father. It's lovely to finf letters from your parents, I know from own experience. Try keeping them close and read them once in awhile.
Being positive helps a lot!

>28 connie53: My sister and I have been taking pictures of the Honeymoon book to upload and create a slide show. It is a beautiful item that I plan to cherish for a very long time. Not sure if we will keep the original because it is falling apart. I may share it with my children just so they can get to know their grandfather a little better.

My kids are now in their late thirties and are getting curious to know things about their grandparents. It took them a while to get there. I think it's because they have kids of their own and start to wonder about their own heritage.

I cannot believe it is almost the holidays again. Life has just been so busy lately. I hope everyone is doing well. Hopefully I will spend more time on here in the next couple of months.

My kids give me Ancestry every year for Christmas as that is the only thing I want or need.
Since I am the oldest in my family, I want to research as much as possible and and have it in writing.
I read all your messgaes and want to say how sorry to hear of your losses.
