Hello, I'm nerdytheorist. Welcome to my thread (or The Reading Dragon Tavern).
I am a huge fan of SCI-FI, Paranormal, and Fantasy. I DM a few D&D campaigns, I am a small game developer over on Roblox, and I also have several writing projects going on. I also am a nerd over video games, tabletop games, TV shows, and music (recommendations for any of these and books are always welcome).

Happy New Year everyone!
Today felt more like the first day of the year for me. I was reminded of the good memories I had from the past few Januarys, and I'm excited to see how this year's goes. Hopefully, it will be a good start of the year for everyone.
(My first book of the year is going to be Mockingjay)

Hope everyone has had a good week so far!
Earlier this week I began reading Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as our next school project. After reading a few chapters, I think I have to say that my favorite part so far is the Victorian setting. I'm excited to see how it turns out.

Hello everyone, hope the past few weeks have been good for you!
This weekend my friend and I released a very basic demo for a game on Roblox we've been working on for the past few months. We're excited to continue development on it and see where it takes us.
Have a great day!

Hello everyone!
We recently started getting into anime. So far, we've mainly been watching My Hero Academia, a show that is very quickly becoming one of my favorites. A quick summarization is that the world has evolved into a society where a large majority of the population have superpowers known as quirks. Within this society, many people rose as Heroes to defend the world from villains who use quirks for evil. Izuku Midoriya (also known Deku) was born without a quirk but has wanted to be a Hero ever since he was a little boy. Going into high school, a chance is presented upon him to enter the Hero course at UA, the worldwide famous school known for educating many of the world's best Heroes.
It's a really good show and very bingeworthy.

On top of that, I started reading volume three of Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm also going to try and be more active on LT.

Hello again everyone!
I finished Mockingjay at last. I have to say it was my least favorite of the books. For me it didn't live up to the suspense that the other two books had, and I also couldn't get a grip of what was going on (that one was more on me and the environment I chose to read it in). We started the movie last night and I'm starting to get an understanding of what's going on. To me the story is good, but it seems out of place from the rest of the trilogy.
The next book I intend to read is one that I've been meaning to read for a while, Dune. After watching the new movie last year, I pretty much was sold on reading the book. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Have a great evening!

oooh, Dune is one of my reread books every so often. In fact, I've got it on reserve at Overdrive now, as my old paperback copy fell apart.

>29 nerdytheorist: I agree with your thoughts on Mockingjay- it was also my least favorite.

I LOVED Dune! It's one of my husband's favorite books, and he is always trying to get us to read it. I finally did in 2020, and he was right - it's awesome. I have not yet seen the newest movie, but I want to.

Finished watching Mockingjay Part Two last night. While I didn't care for the last part of the series, I really enjoyed reading through The Hunger Games books. It has become one of my favorite trilogies, and I will definitely re-read it in the future.
(Also, I'm loving Dune so far).

For a school assignment, we have to choose a book to read over spring break. So, I decided to choose Fahrenheit 451 (I'm putting a pause on Dune but I've enjoyed the part of it I've read). I haven't heard much about it, but I'm super hooked just a few pages into it.

Hey Everyone,
Apologies that I keep saying I'm going to be more active and then not saying anything for a month. As I'm nearing the end of the school year, I think I'll try and push myself to get online daily, and to maybe start responding on other threads.
Earlier this week I finished Fahrenheit 451 and started Something Wicked This Way Comes. I think I'll keep a pause on Dune for now, as my goal for this summer is to read shorter books and manga. Another thing we finished about two weeks ago was My Hero Academia, I which I might post a review of. The Anime we're watching now is Demon Slayer, which to me is just as good as My Hero Academia is.

My Hero Academia (Summary)
Izuku Midoriya (otherwise known as Deku) is a teenage boy who lives in a super-human society where over 80% of the population has a special ability known as a quirk. After the first appearance of quirks, chaos emerged in the world. However, this chaos was quickly followed by the new career of Heroes using their quirks to restore peace and defeat villains. It's always been Izuku's dream to become a hero, but there's just one catch: he was born without a quirk. But in just the first few episodes, things start to turn around for Deku. After meeting the symbol of peace and his childhood hero, All Might, he begins his journey of becoming the world's greatest hero. With All Might becoming his mentor, Deku enrolls into UA High, the top school of heroes. There he encounters his all-time frenemy, Katsuki Bakugo, and later, The League of Villains. As the show progresses, Deku goes through many challenges and interferences with The League of Villains to eventually shape him into the world's greatest hero.

My Hero Academia (Review)
10/10
This Anime/Manga does a fantastic job with story elements, characters, humor and suspense. Almost every single character is completely likable and the backstories we've received so far just have made me even more attached to them. Even the characters that currently don't have much on the plot are super awesome (especially Tokoyami). The villains are also incredibly amazing in every way. And the story is so fitting for the setting and characters as well. Each plot-arch has you on the edge of your seat and are filled to the brim with twists and turns. This is a great starting anime/manga series that is still running, with the next season beginning in October.

Hi everyone!
Today I started our last book in ELA for the school year, The Outsiders. I only had to read the first chapter, but I can already tell that I'm going to really enjoy it.
I also started writing a modern retelling of Heracles' 12 Labors last week.

>41 nerdytheorist: "Stay gold, Ponyboy!" When you get there, you'll understand. :-)

Coincidentally, I also read a modern retelling of Heracles' 12 Labors. Except (don't tell scaifea) mine was The Labors of Hercules, which is an Agatha Christie mystery featuring her iconic detective Hercule Poirot.

>41 nerdytheorist: The Outsiders is definitely one of the better staples of English classes. The film adaptation is also a delightful who's who of 80s and 90s actors before they made it really big (if your teacher is like mine, you'll probably get to experience it too).

Hey everyone!
We finished The Outsiders about a week ago, and for anime Demon Slayer a couple weeks ago. I think I'll wait until fall to read Something Wicked This Way Comes as it seems more appropriate.
It's my last week of school so I'm starting my summer reading a little early with the fourth volume of Fullmetal Alchemist. I'll have a review for Demon Slayer up sometime later this week.
