Part One.

A day-long festival of music and singing from across Europe and Canada in the European Broadcasting Union's annual Christmas event. Choirs and ensembles come together to celebrate the wonder of Christmas, beginning in Russia with the Moscow Synodal Choir, on to Tallinn in Estonia with Vox Clamantis, and then Saint-Saëns from Leipzig in Germany and Handel from Riga in Latvia. 11.00 Moscow: The Moscow Synodal Choir sing Russian liturgical music ranging from a 16th-century stichera of tsar Ivan the Terrible in honour of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God to music of the present century. Moscow Synodal Choir, Alexey Puzakov (chorus director). 12.00 Tallinn: Live - Vox Clamantis sing music by Arvo Part and Cyrillus Kreek. Vox Clamantis, Jaan-Eik Tulve (chorus director). 1.00 Leipzig: The MDR Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus perform Christmas music by Rheinberger, Britten and Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noël, Op 12. MDR Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. 2.00 Riga: Live - Christmas music by Handel and his contemporaries.

More from the festival of Christmas music and singing from Europe and Canada as choirs and ensembles come together to celebrate the wonder of Christmas, including performances from Athens, Copenhagen, Stuttgart and Vancouver. 4.00 Athens: The ERT Chorus sings a selection of traditional Greek Christmas songs. 5.00 Pitea (Sweden): The Erik Westberg Vocal Ensemble sings Praetorius and traditional Swedish Christmas songs. 6.00 Copenhagen. The Danish National Vocal Ensemble sings Christmas music by Sandstrom, Norgard and Nielsen. 7.00 Berlin: The Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini, perform Bach cantatas and concertos. 8.00 Stuttgart: The SWR Vocal Ensemble with a programme of Scandinavian Christmas music. 9.00 Vancouver: Early Music Vancouver and Suzie LeBlanc perform Bach's Christmas Oratorio. 10.00 Sofia: Gli Accordati Vocal Ensemble performs music by Lassus, Gesualdo and Jannequin.
