landmark books

I have a silly unimportant question. I was tagging some landmark books, today, when I noticed that the heading/ header slot- which usually contains the name of series did not mention that it was part of the landmark series. Those titles that fall into Landmark World- all are designated, accordingly. But not, just plain Landmark Books. I couldn't beleive my luck that I had a new project ahead. But when I went to the "main" page- and looked closely- at the bottom - there was mention of being part of a publisher series. I clicked on it- and low and behold- it took to me to the page I would have expected. All the books are in order. So, my only befuddlement and disappointment is that there is not a caption/ title/ link/ mention thing- at the top of the page; where it would be clearly designated and visible- should I want to click on it.

Is there a way to get it visible at the top- so that People don't have to go looking for it willy-nilly.

thank you.

Publisher series do not show up at the top of the page by design. Take Emma. It belongs to 51 Publisher series (probably more will be added as well) in various languages. Do you want these 51 on top? :)

You can locate the publisher series or check whether it's been made through search, provided you know what you're looking for. Limit the search to series on the left side and voila

The Random House Landmark and World Landmark series are a series and not a publisher library. In nearly every case the books are unique to them and the series. If this has been made a publisher series, it is a mistake to do so.

There are 122 books in the U.S. Landmark series, and 63 in the Wold Landmark series plus one or two dozen "Giant Landmark" books that most collectors look for as well.

I think there are one or two examples where the Landmark version is adapted for the series from some existing book (e.g. Profiles in Courage or 30 Seconds Over Tokyo) but most were written expressly for it.

It is possible that your copies of the books are not yet combined with copies that are in the designated series. That happens to me when I am adding books for fiction series.

>5 Keeline: If there is even one book which has editions outside of the series, it needs to be added as a Publisher series and not a regular series. I think that this is what is happening here because of a book or 2.

If a book is abridged, it is no longer the same book (i.e. should not be combined).

I looked up a list of the series rather than relying on my memory of the 1990s when I worked a lot with the series.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landmark_Books_(series)

Only one title coincides with a previously published book, Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, and the Landmark edition is abridged for the series and audience.

I would politely argue that the Landmark series is a series, not a publisher series, by LT standards.

That said, if the OP wants to have a clue that a book is part of the Landmark or World Landmark series, this can be done in the title field with something like:

The Witchcraft of Salem Village (Landmark, #69)

This has the benefit that searches on the phone app and regular browser will be facilitated. On the mobile app the series names in common knowledge are not searched but information in the titles is. Content after a colon or in parens is not considered for auto-combining. It may be a workaround that is satisfactory.

>7 Keeline: Which is why I said "I think" and did not point out the books which are the same. However - "same title" is not enough of an indication - there are a few series out there that renamed books to fit a series but the books are the old ones published in the same form but under a different title - with minor revisions sometimes but not enough to constitute a new work). So someone needs to look through them a bit more carefully at some point.

If none is published outside of the series in the same form then yes, it should be turned into a proper series :)
