Going crazy trying to remember the name of a book!

I remember the plot of this romance/mystery novel really well, but I am having a hard time remembering the name of the novel or the author. The widow of a rich man (I think the name was Robert) returns to his family manor/mansion and meets her husband's stepbrother. There are ghost sightings in the lake nearby and someone's trying to hurt the widow for her husband's sins. It is revealed towards the end that the widow's husband's friend raped Leon's mother and fathered Leon, while Robert stood by and did nothing to help her. The widow and Leon have a heated affair throughout the duration of the novel. There's one particular scene I recall where he finds her trapped in a barn or shed on a stormy night and I think they share a kiss.
