Found: Childrens Fantasy monster hunting series

Between 2007 - 2010, when I was in primary/grade school (so between the ages of 7 and 10), I remember reading a series of fiction books from the class library set in a fantasy world. So these were quite simple books.
They were short books, very much so, and paper back, that were set in a fantasy universe following a young male protagonist who goes around on quests that end up with him hunting monsters. It was something of a monster of the week type of series with each book focusing on a new monster. It was definitely a series, I remember the teacher who let us take home books to read had multiple of this very series.

I'm not sure, but I think there may have been something about a compass that pointed the protagonist in the direction of his quest? It's been so long, I can't say for certain if there was a compass or not, but it sounds right in my head.
