series / sorting

so, in addition to combining, I have been trying to sort specific works into series. My most recent series is a series of phonic books, published as "logic of English" However, this author has more than one series, so I have begun by dividing the "logic of English" into groups. The first group I tackled is called Foundations, this is early phonics for early readers, that moves at a slower pace. ( I will next tackle her other phonics for older/faster- called essentials). ...anyhow, I placed all works that I found into the "foundations" category. But I wanted to finish the job. I wanted to include titles, not yet found on librarything. Is there a way to add titles to a series, without entering them first into my library- as I do not own these?

thank u

thank you. sad. seems inefficient

how can I enter them- but not have them show up as my books? I can label them as separate group- but, it will always raise my "have read/own count" of my main library.

>3 EGBERTINA: The site is a collection of libraries and not a collection of bibliographies. So if noone has a book, the site does not have it.

>3 EGBERTINA: I don't think it would be very efficient for LibraryThing to hold data for books that no LibraryThing user has in their account.

You can create different collections in your account for different purposes, and include the books in one of those, if it is important to you. You could put it in a "wishlist" collection, or create a new collection just for series purposes. You don't need to consider your "main library" to be the entirety of books that are included in your account, you could have a separate collection for that. I use the "your library" collection for the books that I own, and have a separate collection for books that I have read (some of which I own and some of which I do not), and another collection for books that I used to own but don't anymore

>6 gilroy: That’s akin to adding stories just so you can build contents pages - while not forbidden, it’s kinda against the spirit of the site. :)

I've previously been advised to list the titles in a disambiguation note for the series. The information helps with identifying or remembering what's missing for later.

>10 aspirit: I did just that for a number of series, including, for example, 'The Lonsdale Library'. Unfortunately the description field in the LT v.2 'new series' doesn't support line breaks, so it now looks a mess.

Incidentally, I see that the original 'CK' series, linked from the 'new series', have now been disappeared. See also 'The antiquary's books' for another disappeared CK series.

ETA - For whatever reason the triple square brackets doesn't like my second example. Here's the URL, https://www.librarything.com/nseries/267338/The-antiquarys-books
