Television weather forecaster Willard Scott died September 4 at the age of 86. His books include The Joy of Living and America is my Neighborhood.

Actor Jean-Paul Belmondo died September 6 at the age of 88. His autobiography was called Mille vies valent mieux qu’une.

Journalist Donald Zec died September 6 at the age of 102. His books include The Queen Mother: Unique Recollections and Barbra: A Biography of Barbra Streisand.

Journalist and crime novelist Robert Richardson, who won the Crime Writers' Association's John Creasey Memorial Award for his first novel, The Latimer Mercy (1985), has died. He was 80.

Former Adlai E. Stevenson III died September 6 at the age of 90. He wrote The Black Book.

Minister and AIDS activist Carl Bean died September 8 at the age of 77. He wrote I Was Born This Way: A Gay Preacher’s Journey Through Gospel Music.

Michael D. Newton (aka Mike Newton) died September 6 at the age of 69. He was a prolific writer of "house" series (for example The Executioner) as well as crime non-fiction.

Terrorist leader of the Peruvian Shining Path Abimael Guzman died September 11 at the age of 86. He wrote Interview with Chairman Gonzalo.

Retired Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong died September 12 at the age of 90. His many books include Rescuing The Bible from Fundamentalism, The Fourth Gospel: Tales of a Jewish Mystic and Reclaiming the Bible for a Non-Religious World. :’(

Journalist David Pallister died September 4 at the age of 76. He wrote South Africa, Inc. and The Liar : Fall of Jonathan Aitken.

Impresario George Wein died September 13 at the age of 95. His memoir was called Myself Among Others.

Peter Warner, former president and publisher of Thames & Hudson, died September 9. He was 79. He was also an editor and novelist: The Mole: The Cold War Memoir of Winston Bates, a Novel and the Most Beautiful Villages series among others.

South Korean mega church evangelist Cho Yong-gi died September 14 at the age of 85. His books include The Fourth Dimension, Volume 1 and Prayer, the Key to Revival.

Playwright Jean-Claude van Itallie died September 9 at the age of 85. His work includes American Hurrah and The Serpent.

Historian Charles Grier Sellers died September 23 at the age of 98. His books include The Market Revolution: Jacksonian America and A Synopsis of American History.

The first female police chief of a major American city Penny E. Harrington died September 15 at the age of 79. She wrote Triumph of Spirit: An Autobiography and Investigating Sexual Harassment in Law Enforcement .

Lord Grey Gowrie died September 24 at the age of 81. His books include Francis Bacon in Dublin and The Italian Visitor.

Character actor Basil Hoffman died September 17 at the age of 83. His books include Cold Reading and how to be Good at it and Acting : And How to Be Good at it.

Editor and writer Russ Kick died September 12 at the age of 52. His works include Everything you Know is Wrong and The Graphic Canon.

Philosopher Charles W. Mills died September 20 at the age of 70. His books include The Racial Contract and The Contract and Domination.

Leila Meacham, a writer and former teacher who "didn't find success as a novelist until late in life," died September 19. She was 83. Meacham wrote a series of historical romances including Tumbleweeds, Somerset, and Dragonfly.

Prof. Kenneth Pickering died on September 16, 2021. Among his books are Key Concepts in Drama and Performance and Drama in the Cathedral.

Historian Betty Wood died September 3 at the age of 76. Her books include The Origins of American Slavery and Colonial Slavery.

Aerial photographer Robert Haas died September 28 at the age of 74. His books include Through the Eyes of the Condor and I dreamed of Flying Like a Bird.

Critic and academic Laura Marcys died September 22 at the age of 65. Her books include The tenth Muse: Writing About cinema and Autobiography: A Very Short Introduction.

A leader against colonialism in Africa Simon Zukas died September 27 at the age of 96. His memoir was called Into Exile and Back.

Just to add he was active in anti colonial struggle in what was previously called Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia. There is an Other Lives obituary in the Guardian, a UK newspaper- these are obituary articles written by friends and family who then submit them to the paper in some way, rather than the more official obituaries whose subjects are an editorial decision.
