Can't remember the book title: Husband wants wife to be perfect. She behaves perfectly at dinner parties and hosts perfect dinner parties. Then she starts to "fall apart" but manipulates the secretary to save the day. Orders the flowers, caterer, etc. under secretary's name and then confesses to husband "that she forgot." Secretary is befuddled but takes all the praise and falls in love with the husband. At the end, secretary comes to wife to apologize for something "that just happened" - the falling in love. Then wife (who is now divorced) delivers final blow and says secretary's father seduced her mother (and got her pregnant) and then dumped her (wife and wife's mother). They had a hard life and now secretary can "pay" by getting the emotionally abusive husband and wife is set free.
