Young (Native Indian?) Indigenous Girl is visited in jail by a male therapist, she is troubled, animalistic (trying to stab in the back on their first meeting), and he counsels with her and brings her around. The story ends tragically when she with great energy is running across a street to show her therapist her first paycheck (or something) and she is killed in the street.
I read it first in the 90'sl however, I believe it was written in the '70s.
