The H was perhaps a dare devil, or a dueler who was always taking chances. He was hurt and his ex mistress turned friend had nurtured him back to health. I think he was a Duke perhaps.
The heroine: loved animals. Just arrived in London?, was outside the modiste when she took on a man abusing a work horse.
She got in lots of trouble adoring/rescuing animals.
There was a mad invalid Uncle to the H and the H’s cousin, a skinny drunk cousin who causes mischief. Throws half dead animals into her yard (the servants ? Hide them) and he tries to scare her away with the animals and a almost dead horse and craziness. I think there are attempts on the H life.. and they try to drive off the h in order to make sure he won’t marry her and get an heir.
