Contemporary: white girl and black guy are study partners and fall in love

Two high schoolers meet in a class, a white girl and black boy, they are study partners and become significant others. At the end he gets killed. His parents were divorced with different houses but they lived across from each other. Girl lives with parents who are never really around and has an older sister whos moved out. I think the girl had long brown hair.
