I just watched an incredible video essay on The Last Unicorn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M57VN_b9FRM and realized that Beagle could make a fine, if offbeat, addition to LOA, especially with perhaps a volume collecting all of his Unicorn-related stories. I'm sure rights would be a big obstacle, but who knows?

I too think Beagle should be a candidate for LOA's main-series volumes. i'm not sure about "all" of his unicorn stories. Beagle has written many other fine works besides those with unicorns. Unless LOA decides to do a complete Beagle edition, I would like to see a thematically varied selection of his best work.

Though this thread is about Peter Beagle, I would like to make a pitch for Gene Wolfe here, too. My personal preference would be to prioritize Wolfe over Beagle.

Looking at his bibliography, a single large volume could potentially collect all of his fiction.

As for Beagle: he's written some good stories. Can't say I've ever read the "Unicorn" books (or any others), but...for my part, there's no serious "I've gotta read this again and again (the way I feel about authors as various as Styron, Fitzgerald, Jackson, Harlan Ellison, John Irving, Roth, Vonnegut, Ann Tyler, Ross Macdonald, Toni Morrison, Ray Bradbury, and, now, Butler...and others).

He's good, but not _great_, IMHO.
