I wonder if there are any changes on just how many posts are advisable in a particular thread. Some threads are approaching 400 posts, and I don't think this is fast to download or easy to consult. I suppose that, as before, a member can start a continuation. Perhaps this is now a function of the administrators. Don't know.

Any FSD member can start a continuation of a thread, including you if you so desire.

For some threads, guessing ones that exceed a certain number of posts, there’s a link at the bottom to start a continuation of that thread.

The number of posts never bothers me, the number of megabytes of pictures do. LT insists on reloading all pictures all the time, even if they’ve already been viewed and all you want to do is read the few new text-only responses. The reload takes forever...

I believe the 'continuation link' appears after 150 posts.

You can of course set your browser to not load images.

Surely, there must be a middle ground. Disabling pictures is impractical since it's a browser-wide setting - you're basically suggesting one forego using the internet or install a separate browser program just for LT.

>7 treereader: No. I'm sayng that browsers normally have the option to load pages sans images. No need to install anything.

Right, but isn’t that sort of setting browser-wide? In other words, I wouldn’t want to configure my browser to never load pictures because virtually nothing on the internet would make any sense or load correctly anymore. If it’s possible to configure a browser to not load pictures on a site-level basis, that might be more useful but then, it’s usually only the longer threads here that become a problem. My separate browser idea was just a thought on how one could quickly have both pictures and no pictures on an as-needed basis.

Precisely.

Even if I could disable pictures for just LT, it’s still impractical because it’s only the occasional thread that gets overwhelmed with pictures. Maybe some custom Javascript could do the trick if it accounts for already read/viewed posts?

Not sure how I can help, these were just suggestions.
Perhaps request that Tim caps all threads at 'x' number of posts.

>12 treereader: it might interest you to know that there is a group on LibraryThing about hacking LibraryThing (hacking as in writing scripts and so forth to enhance or adjust functionality):
https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/8114/Hacking-LibraryThing
It's not super active, but does seem to have regular traffic, and you might be able to get pointers there.
