Some of my books don't have a scannable ISBN code so I am using some library barcodes and putting that number into the barcode field when editing the book entry. However, when I scan the book's barcode it tells me there is no book in my collection. Shouldn't LibraryThing search books by identifiers other than ISBN as well?

Yes, it does. Title, Author, call number, but not library barcode placed in the incorrect field

>2 gilroy: What do you mean? Search all, which is the default, searches barcode field too. Does scanning default the search to something else?

>3 SandraArdnas: Actually, I think we are both misunderstanding the question, now that I go back and read it.
>1 Eargo: When you say scanning the library code to search your library, how are you doing this? With Tinycat? Or with the Librarything App?

It still says search all when I scan and the I have the library barcode in the barcode field. I am using free trial of Tiny Cat right now to see if it will work for our purposes. I use Library Thing to add new books (and edit, adding the barcode when necessary) and TinyCat to manage circulation.

Seems to be working now. Maybe it can't be searched right away? Computer glitch? I don't know. But I think it is going fine now.

>7 Eargo: For newly entered books it takes a short while to be indexed, but AFAIK it affects only site search, not searching your own catalogue

SandraArdnas (#8):
The systems are indeed separate, but they can both get behind (it's just that one getting behind doesn't mean the other will be). Usually catalog search will work within minutes, but sometimes it gets delayed such that newly-added books take a day or two to be findable by search.

>9 lorax: Thanks for the clarification.
Until the new books are indexed, on LT the last few are easily accessible in several places (add books, home page come to mind) or by sorting the catalogue by entry date. On Tiny Cat, I believe the default option shows last entered books on home page. If it isn't default, it can be changed to that
