Hi
Yesterday, somebody split Roald Dahl's author page - https://www.librarything.com/author/dahlroald - assigning him #1 split, with no other so-named authors and a bunch of unassigned titles. Rather than the tiresome job of having to reassign titles to #0 then changing to Single Author, is there a way that the original edit can be rolled back?

If you go to ‘Author division’ and save as a single author, doesn’t that put everything back to where it was?
I hesitate to do that without trying to find out from the splitter what they were doing. Occasionally apparently strange changes are part of a larger, and less strange, project awaiting completion.
A quick run through the list of attributed works doesn’t reveal any that obviously deserve a split. I wonder about Postman Pat Parcel though.

Looks like a possible edit war? I’d wait till those editors weigh in as to what they’re doing.

>2 2wonderY: That gives you the following message alert: "To save as a single author, you must first remove all assignemnts below and save."
I don't have the time to do that for nearly 100 titles :-)

>4 2wonderY: I've sent the person who did the edit a polite private message enquiring what their intention is. :-)

Weird. It looks as though two people are doing this, one yesterday and one today.

>7 lilithcat: Very weird.
>1 Michael.Rimmer: At a quick glance (I haven't checked every title), that page shouldn't be split at all.

>7 lilithcat: JLG53 did the big split, brizzzy has returned some 'unknowns' to where they belong but has left Dahl's cookbooks written with his wife, Felicity, separated.
>5 Michael.Rimmer: I had forgotten that change. Relatively recent introduction to hinder edit wars if I remember correctly.

Now, all the CK is on 'combinations issues' page. Over 450 works unassigned, including his major works. What a mess out of nothing

It's back together.

I had a message back from the person who did the split, and it was an innocent error. Good to see Roald's been reunited with his books already :-)

Honestly, I understand that people make mistakes. But, I do wish that when the mistake ends up making a mess, they'd ask for help!

>16 lilithcat: The person responsible didn't realise they'd made any error, so wouldn't have seen any need to request help. There was no malice aforethought from what I can tell 🙂
