It's a long weekend for me and I'll be away 'babysitting' my 92 yr old mum so my brother and sister-in-law can have a break. I leave in a couple of hours so will be starting with an audiobook.

Most of my reading will be audio this weekend since I've got at least 20 hours total to drive. I will read a little in the hotel room, and I'll read my Bible and devotional each day.

I'm reading this weekend, just like every weekend . .

I'll be reading before we were yours by Lisa Wingate, if I can bear it.
It's a sad story. I'm almost halfway through.

I'm in. It's a rainy, cold weekend and staying in to read is about the best thing to do.

I'm about a third of the way into Who Gets In and Why: A Year Inside College Admissions by Jeffrey Selingo. Would love to finish that this weekend and make a big dent in my current mystery, A Curious Incident by Vicki Delany.

Saturday night check-in

Books read from: Whole Shebang by Timothy Ferris, Girl in the Woods by Camilla Lackberg. My recorded book is Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman. I started reading Consuelo and Alva by Amanda Mackenzie Stuart for the next nonfiction challenge in LT.

Books finished earlier this weekend: Beastly Things by Donna Leon
Time reading: .5 hour
Supper was pepperoni pizza from Little Ceaser's

Thoughts: I have lots of books started and am not getting any of them read very fast. I went to the public library and the Friends of the Library Used Bookstore was open! It was exciting. I went in and bought some books. I picked up a copy of Philip Kerr's Prussian Blue, Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen, Spice, the History of a Temptation by Jack Turner, and the last two of the Call the Midwife trilogy by Jennifer Worth. The titles are Shadows of the Workhouse and Farewell to the East End. I woke up to rain and all that thunder and lightening was a lovely sound. We have had no rain here for a month, so it was nice to get some. It will not cool things off like it has in Kansas. I certainly hope it rains in Colorado. Rocky Mountain National Park must be a mess.

Non-book activities: work. I spent most of the day working on my journal article. Tomorrow I have to get some baking done or I won't have anything to eat next week. I also need to do laundry, but the deadline for the paper is October 30 so I will spend this weekend working on it.

Not much reading going on here this weekend, but I have been doing other pleasurable things. Update since yesterday morning, at 8:02 Sunday morning in the UK:

Books read from: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and The Profession of Violence by John Pearson
Books finished: 0
Pages read: 43
Thoughts: I've woken up feeling much less tired than yesterday - actually made use of the hour gained by reverting to GMT for once! - so will hopefully get more reading done today.
Non-book activities: yesterday, a hair appointment, shopping and coffee with my husband and son and then off to play mini golf, followed by a Zoom chat with my parents and dinner and TV. Nothing much today.

I finished How to Read the Bible by James L. Kugel-all 700 pages although I had started this book about 3 months ago.
I am now rereading The Dutch House by Ann Patchett for my book club- I am really enjoying this book again! I have to read more Ann Patchett.
Supper last night- leftovers- chicken soup, chicken with olives and citrus, cauliflower with tomatoes and couscous and..... a butter tart from the Farmer's Market!

Sunday morning check-in

Books read from: A few pages Whole Shebang by Timothy Ferris, Girl in the Woods by Camilla Lackberg.

Breakfast was Starbucks cappuccino and a chocolate croissant

Thoughts: My sister in Kansas says that it is COLD! there and will snow there today. My cousin in eastern Wyoming has 7 inches of snow on the ground. Best of all it has snowed in Colorado. That may put the skids on some of the fires in the high country around Grand Lake.

Non-book activities: work. I spent most yesterday working on my journal article. The deadline for the paper is October 30 so I will spend the rest of today working on it. That won't leave much time for reading. Today I will bake a banana cake.

>20 Rebeki:
hair appointment, shopping, mini golf - I'm amazed that you get out so much. I haven't had a haircut since March; still pretty much staying home to avoid the virus which is only getting worse here.

Sunday morning in North Carolina

Books: finished before we were yours. Wonderful but heartbreaking, especially since it is based on true events that I knew nothing about.
I loved the sister theme.
I've neglected my audio book beast player since I haven't been walking much in the last week. Coudy, showers here today but I think I'll take an umbrella and do a long 'rain walk' later.

Food: Chef Bob is making my favorite Dutch Baby pancake for breakfast!

>23 nrmay: The virus is definitely getting worse here too, but everything is still open (for now), so I suppose we're doing things while we can. That said, yesterday was my most exciting Saturday in a long while! Back in March/April/May I felt anxious just going to the supermarket, but I feel much more comfortable now. I think gatherings in homes, workplaces and crowded bars/restaurants present the biggest risk. The rules in London have recently been tightened so that you can only meet people from your own household indoors, but that was what we were doing anyway - my husband, son and I are pretty happy hanging out together! Mini golf is a great activity for these times, as it is outdoors, with natural social distancing between groups, and the course only permits households to play together.

The other thing to note is that I work at the primary school my son attends and, with the exception of our six-week summer break, we've been back at school since 1 June, so have no choice but to be out of the house and mixing with others. In other circumstances, I might be more inclined to stay home.

Sorry for the lengthy reply. A quieter day today, but still no more reading done!

Sunday night check-in

Books read from: I kept at it all day and read a big chunk of Girl in the Woods by Camilla Lackberg. My recorded book is Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman. I managed to read 25 pages in Consuelo and Alva by Amanda Mackenzie Stuart for the next nonfiction challenge in LT.

Books finished earlier this weekend: Beastly Things by Donna Leon
Time reading: 2 hours
Lunch at the Indian restaurant, and it was so good.

Thoughts: Last Sunday when I went to eat at the Indian restaurant I was the only person in the place for over an hour. This Sunday there were 3 tables so with me there were 7 people in the place. They seemed to be selling some take-out lunches so I hope the place can stay in business.

Non-book activities: I did not bake my cake today. I did some shopping and will do some cooking tomorrow and have all the ingredients for things. I spent most of the afternoon reading and read 200 pages in the Lackberg book. I am getting tired of this authors tendency to throw everything but the kitchen sink into her books. There is no reason why this murder mystery has to be 586 pages. None. I am about 200 pages from the end and will keep going with the novel, but seriously - where was the editor for this book?

I read a few more pages in what appears to be a fairly standard biography of Consuelo and Alva Vanderbilt by Amanda Mackenzie Stuart.

Books finished earlier this weekend: Beastly Things by Donna Leon
Time reading: 1 hour before bed last night

Thoughts: I am not sure I will ever finish Girl in the Woods. It just goes on forever. No wonder I was never published here in the U.S. U.S. readers wouldn't put up with that.
