keeping records on price of books

I am totally new to this so I apologize in advance if I have just managed to overlook the answer to this question.

I would like to be able to keep records of the price I paid for a book (or my estimate of the value). I can't seem to find a way to do that. Even better would be to have a field to record list price, my estimate of current value, and a min/max replacement cost or value if selling it.

Is this already in the software somewhere and I just can't find it? If not, is there some way that I can add these fields manually? I'd prefer the price as new to be imported along with all of the other data when the barcode is scanned if at all possible.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jim

There is no separate field for price/value.

Many people use the "private comments" field.

That is what I do. I'm a PC/keyboard person. I do a few things so I can search for a price or other things in the private comments area since it is free form. Private message me or post any question on my "wall".

Basically, prices are complicated. Different currencies, currencies changing value over time, New cost vs used value, ...

What you want from a price system may not be what someone else wants. In fact, you yourself seem to want three or four different fields.

Add in whether or not the value should be open, like most fields, or private, so that potential thieves don't see which books would be worth stealing.

This has been discussed many times without there being a consensus on what those who want a price feature would want it to do.

I do this with Excel and have a purchase price (zero for things bought with a gift card etc) and a value price which is generally (in UK) the RRP price or price on the cover. This is part of an inventory spreadsheet which covers other assets. Without this and entering covers into Lightroom I should probably read more.

>5 PossMan: Ah, reading books. . . such a novel idea. . . between indexing, running a museum, chasing my 14 month old grandson around, etc it certainly would be fun to read more. I might even finish a book this month!!

I don't think that would be accurate, though. Used books are generally worth less than the price on the cover.
