Elisabeth Leonskaja Plays Chopin.

Concerts from the Queen's Hall recital series over the years, beginning with Donald Macleod introducing a performance from 2009 by celebrated pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja. It is an all-Chopin programme of nocturnes, ballades and a Polonaise, and before the interval there is Chopin's second piano sonata in B flat, with its funeral march third movement, originally written as an separate work. Nicola Benedetti, The Academy of Ancient Music and Richard Egarr.

Recorded at the Queen's Hall in Edinburgh, internationally acclaimed Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti demonstrates her baroque violin style in sparkling showpieces for the instrument. She is joined by the distinguished period performance ensemble, the Academy of Ancient Music, under the direction of early music specialist Richard Egarr, for an energetic, witty and joyful Baroque recital featuring a selection of concertos for violin and harpsichord by Vivaldi and Telemann. The Chiaroscuro Quartet.

Donald Macleod introduces a concert first broadcast in 2017 by the Chiaroscuro Quartet, celebrated for their trailblazing work performing classical chamber music on gut strings. This recording features a dazzling performance of Schubert's sorrowful Death and the Maiden quartet, plus one of Haydn's Op 76 works, his final visionary word on the quartet form. The recital opens with JS Bach's most enigmatic work the Art of Fugue. Bach: The Art of Fugue, BWV 1080, Nos 1,4 and 9; Haydn: String Quartet in E flat, Op 76 No 6. Interval. Donald Macleod introduces soprano Louise Alder and the Dunedin Consort in a performance of some of Handel's operatic arias and cantatas interspersed with instrumental interludes of the composer's concerti grossi.
