Speaking of sound "cognitive function," where's the evidence in favor of Trump's critics possessing much in that?

With no suggestion that we're going to review the full gamut of their absurd talking-points, let's look at just a couple of the most recent examples of anti-Trump idiocy and, in the process, remember: these are people who've made a crusade of calling Trump's mental capacity into question.((*) See, once more, below)

Re-name your pro-sports team something (we regard as) benign—or else!)

And some have. For example, in a desperate stop-gap measure:

"Washington's NFL team will be known simply as the Washington Football Team when the 2020 season kicks off after dropping the controversial 'Redskins' moniker earlier this month."... "the team has indicated it wants more time to find a long-term nickname, but will push forward with removing all references to the Redskins in the meantime." ... | (The Daily Telegraph (London))

Well, who could object to a bland name "The Washington Football Team"? I answer: the same people who'd pull down memorials to U.S. president George Washington for no other reason than that they suppose that George Washington's having held Negroes as slaves means that many today are offended by the use of that name, it would seem to me.

In the name "The Washington Redskins", the offending part is found in the "Redskins" and in the "Washington." The rest of the name is acceptable.

Therefore, the team may refer to itself, after the fashion of ®, a.k.a. "the artist," as "The Football Team®" or even some symbol. But not anything resembling this one: .

These two names ®, a.k.a. "the artist," at least had the virtue of having been chosen by the person using them, rather than having been imposed at the demand of a mob of malcontents.

As for the Redskins' critics, theirs is the stuff of a juvenile's vanity and primping; many people can actually see that, it's just that they're not the people who are chanting for Trump's removal.

... "the Redskins (football team) did not engage in those, and people noticed.

"
A 2016 poll conducted by the Washington Post, the very organization most active in campaigning for the Redskins' demise, found by a 10-to-1 ratio that Native American respondents were not offended. In fact, surveys have suggested that the most common emotion the name inspires is pride. They are proud that Washington's football team wanted to associate itself with and commemorate the ferocious, courageous reputation of the 'braves on the warpath' who once terrorized their enemies wearing (at least in some tribes) the red warpaint that originally gave rise to the name 'Redskin.'

"This all stands to reason — after all, no one names their (sic) team after something they (sic) think is stupid, inferior, or weak. They (sic) name their (sic) team after something they (sic) think is awesome." ...

I know! Let's all get T-shirts printed with

"person", "woman", "man", "camera", "tv" (Fox News Tucker Carlson Tonight : "Dr. Marc Siegel says he's disappointed by late-night critics' response to his interview with President Trump") | Jul. 25, 2020 - 4:04>

When you pick on such piddling stuff as that, you demonstrate your desperation, your frank opinion concerning Biden's election-prospects, especially when your candidate makes Trump look like a champion "Jeopardy!"-contestant. If you had something valid and vote-worthy to present, you'd be presenting it instead of this juvenile stuff.

"I was a Democratic caucus. Have you ever been to a caucus? No you haven't; you're a lying dog-faced pony-soldier."

"It is important that Iowa and Nevada have spoken, but look..." (remarks following Iowa and New Hampshire votes.)

' "I'm Joe Biden's husband," (not to mention the Captain of this ship).

—and I approve this message

(and sailing aboard this ship. From all the ship's crew, I bid you welcome aboard. Enjoy your voyage. Our ship is unsinkable, the very latest in modern technology.')

Trump's critics' idea of his latest morally-outrageous deed?

Get this:

it's his overbearing "authoritarianism".

I swear: one could not make this stuff up!

("The essence of fascism, and authoritarianism more generally, is violent spectacle." ...)

"Violent spectacle" is the "essence of of fascism, and authoritarianism more generally." ... Moreover, "Only the thirst for violent spectacle can explain the president’s decision in recent days to send federal security forces – including paramilitary teams from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) – to Portland and elsewhere."(emphasis added) ... "This is simply the latest example of Trump’s attempt to benefit from authoritarian spectacle" —that's according to Andrew Gawthorpe, lecturer in history and international studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands. He ought to know, right?

So, it must have been that Trump lured angry mobs out and then cleverly tricked them into looting and burning.

* This is where we remind ourselves, but especially, others, who consistently insist that Trump is a dumbo, as mentioned already: remember: these are people who've made a crusade of calling Trump's mental capacity into question.

His reason? Well, as (pre-designated by his enemies) a fascist, Trump has an innate need for violent spectacle and that was a need in search of an excuse. Having none of his own, he set out to contrive one. That's because, somehow, Trump's penchant for violent spectacle wasn't being answered or sated by other people's burning and looting in half a dozen major towns and cities around the U.S. No. Rather, that burning and looting was instead what he needed and was searching for, this excuse to display his authoritarianism. And how would he do that? Why, by squarely directing that toward the quelling of these crowds of angry people burning and looting!, of course.

That, too, was the way the ordinary good people of these towns and cities in the midst of burning and looting also saw things. I mean, it must have been. Faced with burning and looting in and around the neighborhoods in which they live, how else but in revulsion and disgust could they have regarded Trump taking advantage of that disorder to express his authoritarianism?

Just ask them. Professor Gawthorpe surely must have. He certainly couldn't and wouldn't have been so bold as to have advanced this view of the events without having first carefully gone out and checked to confirm his premises' and conclusions' validity with the observable facts on the ground, right?

Here—a little something for your "credibility."

I'd pose this counter-challenge:

"Spot the bogus, logically-flawed, bullshit 'response,' then describe it."

a "Straw-man" argument.

So, wait a minute--

who has contended that Trump has a measured I.Q. at the genius-level or that this is something that's either necessary, sufficient or common in U.S. presidents either by some reputable theory or observed experience?

None that I've heard from here.

That's why this is called a "straw-man"

If the challenge is "Spot the stable genius" neither Joe Biden nor any of the others who'd run for the Democratic party's 2020 presidential nomination are in that photograph, either.

But the point, really, and what's both much worse as well as a shame about Democrats is that Joe Biden doesn't and can't respectably have any place in a photo of cognitively-competent contenders for the office of president of the United States while, on the other hand, Donald Trump clearly does have such a place. For, of the two of them, Trump's cognitive competence ("CC") is not only more than sufficient for the job, compared to Biden's "CC," Donald Trump's is clearly much, much better.

Your choice. No one can force you grab the life-saving-bouy you've been offered. But you're flailing in water that's way over your head.

Bad news for you--

This article, at The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is No. 1 on the past two day's "most-read" list:

Opinion | Exchange | Racial justice: The new religion? | The "woke" movement is built on shows of "right thinking" and Puritan-style intolerance. | By Katherine Kersten
July 24, 2020 — 5:57pm

And it's trending nationally in the U.S.

(Source/credit: Anna Moneymaker • New York Times)

Some choice points from it:

"What is unfolding before our eyes is a new secular religion. For all its claims of 'inclusivity,' this new faith is deeply intolerant. It has roots in the American past that would likely surprise its adherents: the Puritan era of our nation’s earliest religious zealots."

"The Puritans divided humans into the saved and the damned, the saints and the sinners. The woke faith does the same, classifying people as either oppressors (white) or victims (nonwhite)."

Now for the good news:

the U.S. is still, despite the efforts of the "Woke" cult, a place where one is free to read or to ignore, as one sees fit, such articles as this.

So you, of course, are not obliged to read the article. The chances seem virtually certain that you won't read it and, even if you did, your mind is so closed as to be impervious to its points. Articles such as this, with its reasoning, won't break through the defenses of your closed mind.

So, rather than reading the article, you can go gratify your cult-faith impulses and find a place where there are others to look on, approving and applauding you, as you "take a (virtue-signalling) knee" or two knees, as the morons pictured in the photo above are seen doing.

Sheep-like behavior for sheep-like minds.

Some words from his president, whose "profound genius" coronavirus policy outlined below, has led to 149,000+ deaths in the USA. . .and counting.
“Suppose that we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it's ultraviolet or just very powerful light. Supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way.

"Is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? It sounds interesting to me, so we'll see. But the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That's pretty powerful."

Before his Covid-19 pandemic response policy statement, Trump's most important policy initiative was eliminating illegal immigrants from our country. His statements accurately reflected his astronmical brainpower.
“I hate taking these people. I guarantee you they are bad. That is why they are in prison right now. They are not going to be wonderful people who go on to work for the local milk people.”
Naturally, his unique knowledge of "milk people" needed illustration in order for the common American of average intelligence to share in Trump's understanding of who exactly were these magnificent capitalists who were going to create jobs -- but only for "wonderful people.*"

Can Joe Biden Keep It Together? |
by Laura Washington | Chicago Sun-Times
| There is a dreadful possibility, a whispered doubt that lurks at every Biden appearance.

... "Some Democrats are eager to predict a Biden victory in November.

"Biden has been running a decent campaign, adhering to a steady stream of virtual appearances, speeches and campaign ads that showcase his experience and close relationship with uber-popular former President Barack Obama.

"Yet there is a dreadful possibility, a whispered doubt that lurks at every Biden appearance. It is forming shadows across some worried brows — mine for sure.

"Can Biden keep it together?

"Throughout the fierce Democratic nominating campaign, there was a steady undercurrent of questions about his age, stamina and intellectual capacity.

"I watched, and sometimes cringed, at his performances in debates and other public appearances. Biden stumbled over and mangled names, facts and concepts. At times, he seemed confused.

"If elected, Biden, 77, would be the oldest first-term president in the nation’s history. Some question whether he can handle the rigors of the brutal campaign ahead.

"Biden has kept those concerns at bay." ...

___________________

(emphasis added)

Seriously? Serious people are seriously and publicly questioning whether presidential candidate Joe Biden can "keep it together"?

In that case, Uh, no, he hasn't "kept those concerns at bay." If he had, the article from which this excerpt is taken shouldn't have appeared in the first place.

So the author of this article somehow misses that her own article puts the lie to this absurd claim that "Biden has kept those concerns at bay."

He's done nothing of the kind, and, further, he couldn't do that even if he wanted to since, every time he opens his mouth, these "concerns" deepen--and that's for very good reason.

If the possibilities are indeed "dreadful" and there are "whispered doubts" which are "lurking," then why, except for the fact that the Democrats are proven experts at undertaking incredibly stupid and needless nominating decisions, are they even maintaining this idiocy this long?

As any honest person with a lick of goddamned good sense can see, Biden has _no_ business standing for election to this office and even the fact that he's willing to do so condemns his own judgment and makes of him a man who'd personally place the nation and its best interests in genuine peril for his own goddamned selfish political career interests.

That richly deserves to be repudiated by the voters this coming November election-day soundly and unequivocally.

No. But, as for those who do ask themselves that—the question's most obvious and searching answer is one which they don't dare face squarely because, were they to have done that, they might have recognized that just posing it at all damns them for their blinkered view of things:

"they weren't necessary at all" :

the tests, wholly unnecessary, were just a sop to hysterical and idiotic "liberal" fools: done purely for the public/(& esp.) partisan-captured News-media consumption in such a moronically compulsive and obsessed society as is ours today—a society half of which is so delusional that, more than three years after the fact, it still refuses to accept the plain facts of the 2016 presidential-election's result.

For the other half of the public, no such test was, no such tests are, indicated "in the first place".

Joe Biden can't get through even just an ordinary sentence without mangling it. He has trouble formulating and expressing ideas which aren't even complicated.

We have 3+ years of Trump's practice and he was never seriously disputed as the obvious Republican candidate in the 2020 race.

The only reason that there's even any discussion of cognitive capacity in this election is because Joe Biden is running as the Democrats' challenger to Trump and those who are conspicuous in seriously and openly questioning, doubting, distrusting, Biden's mental fitness, not that of Donald Trump, are Democrats.

LOL!

Your criticisms—when judged in the light of the person you actually intend to prefer over Trump in the coming election—make themselves ridiculous, make your pretense of giving the slightest shit about presidential cognitive abilities ridiculous, self-contradictory and self-condemning.

No one takes seriously a word of your laughably inane commentary on this matter.

Democrats 'went to a four-star restaurant' for their nominee and returned with a 'doggy-bag containing greasy, soggy onion-rings and a cold filet-o-fish sandwich' as their nominee.

That, alone, is not what's doomed them. It was what then followed: the incredible nerve to offer such stuff with the claim, while holding a grease-stained paper-bag, "Honest!, this is **** Four-Star restaurant fare."

Aka, Mr. Mispronunciation, stumbled incoherently through today's press "conference" whiny lies and misinformation session, telling pants on fire tales about his performance on coronavirus response, exaggerating the readiness date for a vaccine "far in advance of the end of the year." Hearing allhis "best words," Americans will rush to their doctors to find out what "plaus-ma" is. Somebody should tell him that 156,000 dead Americans is not any of his limited vocabulary of self-aggrandizing adjectives.

The man is totally dysfunctional except for making up nasty playground level nicknames for his opponents.

What a waste we have to survive until voters turn him into a lame duck. Perhaps a week after the election the House will move his impeachment, and Democrats will have the votes in the Senate to remove him the last minute before the inauguration so Pence can't pardon his sorry derriere.

House
"The Constitution mandates that Congress convene at noon on January 3, unless the preceding Congress by law designated a different day." The first day is swearing in of new members, electing Speaker, other house cleaning biz, and notifying the Senate and Pres it's ready to roll with officers elected. So, believe business of the House can begin immediately after that.

Senate
Also convenes that date. New senators, 1/3 of the body, sworn in. Unlike the House, it need not reorganize itself.

Theoretically, then, Pelosi and House Dems could issue new Articles of Impeachment in this session and submit them to the Senate Jan. 3rd or 4th (if week days) 2021. Assume the Senate has a newly elected majority of Dems (and the 2 Indies caucus with them), and Romney and any other "honorable Republican" joins, it's possible it could summon sufficient votes to convict Trump. One might further assume Pence could get the axe, too, making Pelosi POTUS until inauguration Day when (if) a new Democratic pres. is sworn in after noon.

Unlikely scenario, but possible.

Trump needs to retake the cognitive ability test live on TV. In the last two days he has had no idea how to pronounce two VERY common words used regularly by anyone who finished Middle School.

First it was "plaus-ma." Now it's "Yo-Sem-ite!" Twice.
Enjoy the thread and add this to Trump's lexicon of "all the best words" that he brags about having. https://twitter.com/hashtag/yosemite?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

This explains why the Republican Party is a dying party like nothing else can. Perhaps Trump supporters should be required to pass a cognitive ability test before coming to the polls in November?

Glad to hear "flubs" (senile dementia) are now acceptable to "liberals" as "endearing" in those in or standing for election to the highest political offices.

Why wasn't this "better understood" by them before Joe Biden's candidacy?

God! I hate goddamned hypocrites!

Talk about total implosion of cognitive function. It ain't just Trump, anymore. Perhaps Trump, his vast army of former minions, his advisors, Republican politicians, and indeterminate numbers of bigot supremacists should STOP their CRIMINAL activity instead of ramping it up.

Connedservatives, or as Bannon and Trump refer to them, "dupes, suckers, and marks" (sounds like a RWNJ law practice) shouldn't be such pushovers for shysters.

Such bravado must stem from science denial and political ideology liberally doused in toxic masculinity. (Because I don't know of any female anti-maskers who are so militantly aggressive against employing common sense protections.)

You must be delusional. Where all has Trump been in the last couple of weeks....12 states? I can't keep up. Walking through hurricane ravaged Louisiana, viewing the destruction Biden's supporters left in Kenosha, leading meetings with governors, offering help to Democrat leaders who refuse to acknowledge they can't handle BLM and Antifa terrorists, giving speeches, etc.. What has Biden done? Crawled out of his basement once, saw his shadow, and retreated muttering something unintelligible about four more years. His handlers won't even let him answer a single unscripted question.

Let's talk again when Biden's caretakers let him debate the President. Until then, you have nothing worthwhile to say about Trump's condition.

>68 TrippB: Sure thing, buddy. You can say what you want, but the guy who keeps falling down is Trump.

About those debates, by the way... I'm not sure if you're aware, but in general the person who's winning has no reason to debate, and the person who's losing is the one desperate to get the other guy on a stage... so I have to say, I agree with your assessment of Trump's chances right now: bleak.

It'd be fun to see a debate, though. Watching Trump try to loom in his current condition would be priceless.

"Hey, stand still while I loom! Make him stand still, I can't keep up!"

https://www.dailywire.com/news/for-real-joe-biden-botches-the-pledge-of-allegian...

Washington Post columnist Mark Thiessen highlighted just a few of Biden’s recent struggles:

There is plenty of cause for concern. Biden recently announced “I think we can win back the House” and promised to ban the “AR-14.” He mistook Super Tuesday for “Super Thursday,” and forgot the words of the Declaration of Independence, saying “We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women are created, by the, you know, you know the thing.” In South Carolina, he misstated what office he was running for, declaring “My name’s Joe Biden. I’m a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate.” On three occasions last month, Biden declared he was arrested in South Africa trying to visit Nelson Mandela in prison — an incident his campaign later admitted never happened. He earlier described meeting a Navy captain in Afghanistan, but The Post reported that “almost every detail in the story appears to be incorrect.” He claimed to have worked with Chinese leader “Deng Xiaoping” on the Paris Climate Accord (Deng died in 1997)/. He claimed during a debate that “150 million people have been killed by guns since 2007” (which would be nearly half the U.S. population). He said he met with Parkland victims while he was vice president even though the shooting took place after he left office. He has declared that Democrats should “choose truth over facts” and that “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.” He pledged to use biofuels to power “steamships.” He repeatedly gets confused about what state he is in; called “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace “Chuck”; said his late son Beau “was the attorney general of the United States”; and confused former British prime minister Theresa May with the late British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

Any one of these gaffes in isolation would be nothing more than that. But taken together they form a pattern – and raise questions about whether Biden has experienced a cognitive decline. Biden’s defenders say this is unfair, and some have even suggested raising it is ageism. No, it’s not. His socialist rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is 78 — almost a year older than Biden — yet no one is questioning his mental fitness. On Monday night, Sanders spent an hour at a Fox News town hall where he was challenged to defend his policies and answered in great detail and without any gaffes or senior moments. Could Biden do the same?

This post is totally off topic but I wanted to share.
With all the binge watching I've been doing I have noticed some interesting ratings issues.

First of all - West Wing - which has "language" as one of the warnings. Since this was produced for network television there weren't any examples of profanity. My thought is that they are warning people to have a dictionary on hand to look up any words they don't understand.

Next - Great British Baking Show
Pardon my pun but there isn't any programming more vanilla than this but it has a PG rating with a warning for "gore"!!!! (Oh, those cracked and beaten eggs and eviscerated pears!) Game of Thrones this is not!
