YA boy collects deformed candy

Read sometime between 2010 - 2014. In my head feels John Greene-esque, but am not sure that it was actually written by him. Protagonist was a male, teenage or a bit younger. All I can remember is the minor plot point that he collected deformed candy and treats -- M&M's that had fused together, peanuts that looked like people, candy corn of just one color, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I cannot find the title of this book to save my life but this is the only detail i remember as well!!

Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life by Wendy Mass!! It came out in 2006 and is such a great book :)
