Hello! What kind of needlework do you usually do?

I was checking the messages and forgot I had started a board.
I am working on a crochet temperature blanket for 2019 and getting close to finish. I had put it on hold to do other projects. It is for a granddaughter in Texas and I will not see her for a long time so no real hurry.

Sorry, I do not read the boards as much as I should.
The one I am crocheting is made with Granny squares. The first round color is the low temp of the day, second round color is high temp of the day and third I am using white and also white for the border. I make one square white to separate the months.There are 18 squares to each row and has 21 rows. I made one for a granddaughter in Ft. Worth and finishing one for my daughter in Minnesota. I found the pattern on Fiber Flux. These are for 2019 so I am behind but my daughter still wants hers. I have no idea how to post pictures.

Oh - I've seen this idea before. Not sure where. In fact, it might even have been a quilt done somehow similar.

I like the way the granny squares allow you to incorporate both the high and the low temperature for each day!

You did it! You posted your photo. Such an interesting idea.

Wow, that turned out so beautifully! I'd never seen a granny square temperature blanket before. My friend did one that was results for her baseball team rather than the temperature, but in the more typical horizontal line format.

Still working on my daughter's temperature blanket.

How is it going? Almost finished?

There are 21 rows and working on 18 now. I make the first two rows of the 18 squares, then add the white, connect them and then add to the blanket. So, there are three rows of each square.
For those who are interested for next year, I made the first row the lowest temp of the day, the second the highest of the day and then a third row and I used white. Some people did the border and third row in black and that was pretty.

More because I am home. I have been going to meet my kids and we have gone to a restaurant a couple of times now. It is inside and tables are far apart. My youngest son was in a car with a friend that has the virus so I have not seen him. I am 82 so I am being very careful.

What are others doing to keep safe?

>23 mnleona: You know, it's kind of funny to think about staying safe. I've never been very social, and I don't really notice much difference for me, except I've started making more of an effort to wear a mask when grocery shopping. Saturday I went to the store and bought 1.75 of a gallon of mulberry ice cream...or something like that. I miss the days when it just said one half gallon, or one gallon.

I then sat down and ended up eating ALL of it. Yes, my darlings, I ate the entire container. I almost put the last bit in the freezer, but then decided that I was much too old to have guilt over it, and finished the last of it. The mulberries were local, and it was delicious. Earlier in the year, I went through a container of huckleberry ice cream, but it took three days. Tillamook ice cream is the best at using local berries when available.

Ah, well. Off to yard work. Sunday's my favorite day to do the big things, like trimming the roses that are all much larger than I am. Everyone is off to church, and not available to offer to help (I often consider getting shirts printed with the "Go Away! I don't want any help!" but I like my neighbors otherwise, and prefer to not frighten them away.)

I wish that I had handwork to show off, but I just don't seem to have the enthusiasm to pick up a crochet hook.

We had a long winter so I stayed home a lot and then the virus. I last shopped at a Walmart inside the store on March 13 and two weeks ago I shopped online and picked up the groceries outside. My daughter has done that since December. Works great. My local grocery store does not do that. My kids have brought me food. My third son brought me ham and potatoes for Easter and left it by my back door. Those are the special things our kids do for us.

On a fun note, my granddaughter from Texas was here for a few days and took her temperature blanket >12 mnleona: home with her. She took it in her carry-on so it was not lost.

>12 mnleona: That bedspread is similar in colour to a grandma square project I started years and years ago and then abandoned. I've come to the realisation that it's not a project for me so I'm going to try and make socks out of the yarn scraps instead. I always need more socks.
