I have finished the 3rd Johnson Johnson book - Operation Nassau (aka "Dolly and the Doctor Bird"). This is a spy thriller/mystery series written in the 1960s & 1970s so some of it is a bit dated but that doesn't bother me. I didn't like this one as much as the first 2 but still worth reading. 3*

The Mountain Cat Murders by Rex Stout. Mixed reviews on this, but it’s 1939 in Cody, Wyoming. Up to the 3rd chapter and still interesting.

I'm finding it hard to focus on my other books, so a re-read of The ABC Murders is doing the job at the moment.

>12 rabbitprincess: I often find that a reread does the trick when I get in a reading slump. And Agatha Christie is always good!

I am about to start A Long Finish, the 6th book in the Aurelio Zen series.

Recently read: The Long Call by Ann Cleeves (quite liked it), A Bitter Feast (Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James Novels Book 18) by Deborah Crombie (excellent, as usual) and The Last Temptation by Val McDermid. Now back to The Cases of Lieutenant Timothy Trant by Q Patrick.

This past month has been a good time to catch up with the latest entries in some favorite series:

A Better Man by Louise Penny: pretty good, not up to her best IMHO.
A Bitter Feast by Deborah Crombie: she takes Kincaid and James out of the city and delivers some mild foodie porn. Very enjoyable.
The Angel's Share by Ellen Crosby: excellent "buttinsky procedural", fascinating links to Jamestown, F. Bacon, Freemasons, Shakespeare.

I just finished Johnny Get Your Gun by John Ball. This is the 3rd book in the Virgil Tibbs series (I didn't know there was a series until I got this book last spring!) and I think it might be even better than In the Heat of the Night!

I haven't posted here for a while but I just finished The Godmother: A Crime Novel by Hannelore Cayre. It has an original premise: Patience Portefeux is a translator for the police in Paris, mostly of drug dealers speaking Arabic. She uses a her inside knowledge to get into the drug trade herself. I thought it was a compelling, well-written (and translated from the French) story.

>28 jomacbe: Just started The Accomplice by Joseph Kanon, too. I read The Good German many years ago and liked it. I hope I like The Accomplice as well.

>18 rabbitprincess: Good to hear - on my tbr list. Hope to get to it soon.

>13 leslie.98: Loved the Aurelio Zen series. I was sad to see it end when MIchael Dibdin died.

I just finished listening to The Lost Man by Jane Harper. This is the first of her books that I have read or listened to although I've heard all the accolades for The Dry (which I also have available as an audiobook. It was terrific; really made me feel the heat and dryness of outback Queensland and the huge distances people had to travel to anywhere else. The book involves the death of one of three brothers by dehydration when he becomes separated from his vehicle that has all the food and water he needed. Was it just an accident?

Just finished The Playground by Jane Shemilt, my latest ER book. Not baffling, somewhat predictable, good relationships, bad ones too. I'll put thoughts together at some point for my review.

I finished the first book in the Felse series by Ellis Peters (who also wrote the Cadfael series) - Fallen into the Pit. I didn't much care for the atmospheric descriptive style of the writing but I am sure that there are many who would like it. For me, it wasn't nearly as good as the Cadfael books but I am willing to try another just to make sure...

Enigma by Robert Harris - DNF (too convoluted, got to the point where I didn't care about the characters; read a plot summary online, glad I didn't waste my time finishing the book.)
