Pizza

Today I saw a dude in a study carrell, eating pizza. I didn't report him because A) I didn't want to deal with it B) He was being discreet about it C) At least 3 other staff passed him and I'm the new guy and maybe there's not even a rule about pizza in the library, and D) I was eating cheese balls and Coke in my office, so I really had no leg to stand on anyway.

This made me snort-laugh at my circulation desk and one of my patrons "shushed" me, so thank you for this.

When I worked at Albright College Library, we had a "no food" policy but we generally were pretty lenient. Only times we would crack down would be Italian sandwiches or other strong smells. Pizza doesn't smell so we'd let it be. The kids even had pizza delivery to the library!

>3 fdholt: What do yo mean pizza doesn't smell? How disappointing. You should come try some Australian pizza, it smells terrific!

>4 bernsad: Yes it smells, but was tolerated. Italians sandwiches reek!

Edited for clarification.

Pizza smells, but it doesn't stink. (Unlike limburger cheese.)

We had a local nuisance resident that would bring in a hot plate and pan to cook fish and broccoli. He was recently banned from campus for a year for a laundry list of various actions.

Our rule of thumb for food is that if you wouldn't put it in a backpack, you shouldn't have it in the library. So like a bottle of coke is fine, or even like some goldfish in a container, but not like a hamburger. Pizza is a big scourge for us though. We try to keep it out, but it gets in anyway. Most of the time it isn't a problem.
