Wow, A thousand Splendid Suns was one of the best books I have read in a long time. It had been sitting on my shelf because the idea of reading about Afghanistan just didn't appeal to me, but once I got started on it, I couldn't put it down.
I also read A boy called IT in about an hour and a half. I thought it was sad and horrifying, and I wouldn't want to read it again.

If you liked A thousand Splendid Suns, I'd strongly encourage you to also read Khaled Hosseini's first novel The Kite Runner which was made into a movie. The Kite Runner an engaging story of boyhood friendship and betrayal. Give it a try. The movie is also excellent, but read the book first.

I read The Kite Runner first, but I liked Spendid Suns better. I stayed angry at the main character all through the first book because he was so selfish and spoiled.

Have you seen the movie of The Kite Runner yet? It was excellent.

I loved both The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. I have not read a book that has stayed with me as long as both of these have. What a gifted writer!

#4 Did you read the book before you saw the movie? I am always nervous about seeing movies after reading the book because I feel they can never do it justice.

I read The Kite Runner two years before I saw the movie. The movie seemed to stay fairly close to the book. I thought it was great.

I read the book first. By the time I saw the movie, I had forgotten the details of the story and was delighted with how well the movie ran along the story line. I did check with the friend who saw the movie with me (who had only read The Kite Runner the previous month) to verify that fact.

The two boys who played young Hassan and young Amir were so beautiful. They did a most incredible job with their roles. Or perhaps it was just my heart that went out to both of the characters they played. Either way, I cried throughout the whole movie. You can say that film really spoke to me.

Read the book first. Then definitely see the film. There is much cultural beauty in the film. Hearing the language, seeing the scenery (although some of it was actually filmed in China), seeing the characters (although some of those were actually Iranian) - all of these things add to the impact of the story itself.

Again, see the film!

I thought The Kite Runner was much better than Splendid suns. I didn't think either of them was that good, though. They were both quite... Cheesy.
