There's a tag "Hat crimes". It's a typo for "Hate Crimes", but I have to say that I have a book that could arguably be so tagged: The Girl with the Hat: Esther Mercy vs. Marion Talbot.
Miss Mercy, a student at the University of Chicago, owned a hat, from which aigrettes were stolen. During the investigation, it was discovered that the hat had been given to her by her fiancé. Marion Talbot, Dean of Women, accused Miss Mercy of immorality, and she was expelled for having a "bad character". Miss Mercy sued Talbot for slander, won at trial, but the verdict was reversed on appeal.

>18 lilithcat: The Mad Hatter Mystery also :)
Called in to investigate the theft of a rare manuscript from collector Sir William Bitton, larger-than-life detective Dr. Gideon Fell is greatly amused to find London agog over "The Mad Hatter"--a prankster who steals the hats of the rich and famous from their very heads. But when Bitton's nephew is found dead inside the Tower of London with a stolen hat on his head, Fell's interest quickly turns from manuscripts to murder.

The book so tagged is The Lost Art of Gratitude, by Alexander McCall Smith. Here's the relevant quote:
Grace had stood her ground during that discussion. "There are plenty of things nobody can see," she said. "What about that particle thingy that they're trying to find. That Higgs bison, or whatever."
"Boson," Jamie had interjected. "Higgs boson. It's a sort of . . ."
