Hi all
I never appreciated the dificulty in establishing Roman roads until I read this book. Trade meant that the routes pre date Roman roads and these would have been determined over a long period of time by rivers and terrain.

For example Ipswich owns its position to the first fording place of the River Orwell at low tide, yet pg 184 reveals big gaps in our understanding of routes.

I'm glad I bought this book (50p) as a novice who nibbles at the edges of this topic.

I visited Baylham farm for the first time: cabinet of local Roman finds. Fascinating.
