Evelyn Anthony prolific writer of romantic novels died September 25th 2018 aged 92. In 1994 she became the first female High Sheriff of Essex causing some debate as regards a suitable ceremonial uniform and whether she should carry a sword.

Polish Resistance fighter and Holocaust survivor Sonia Shainwald Orbuch died September 30 at the age of 93. Her autobiography was called Here, There Are no Sarahs.

British jurist Louis Blom-Cooper died September 19 at the age of 93. His books include The Literature of the Law: An Anthology of Great Writing in and About the Law, The Judicial House of Lords: 1876-2009 and Law and Morality.

Shirley Toulson poet and teacher died September 23rd 2018 aged 94.

Christopher Thacker writer of many books on gardens died September 27th 2018 aged 87. He also wrote on Voltaire and a critical edition of Candide.

James Benson died September 1st 2018 aged 93. His books included Above Us the Waves, and The Admiralty Regrets, both co-written with a wartime fellow submariner.

Eric Griffiths literary critic died September 26th 2018 aged 65. He wrote If Not Critical and The Printed Voice of Victorian Poetry.

Comedy writer Denis Norden died September 19 at the age of 96. His work written with Frank Muir includes The 'My word!' stories and Oh, My Word! .
