I started Edgedancer by Brandon Sanderson today, it'll be my home read so I won't be reading it fast...well I don't expect to read it fast but you never know.

I've been in realityland for a while, coming back now and then to read #1 from Tad Williams' new Osten Ard trilogy. I've read criticism that the characters are not canny enough. Like the world is ending but they are too dumb to notice. I'm not feeling it, I wasn't that frustrated - the heroes from the first books are done now. There's new ones coming, and they are very problematic, non-standard, anything but vanilla! How is the writer going to get out of this? I feel as though he is preying on my intellect rather than my sympathies and I appreciate his confidence in me as a reader. I got some real shocks and laughs. Things are set up really well for the next books. Back to realityland. See you in October!

Ooh; and while I wait for the kids’ swimming classes to finish I’m visiting Wellmet to investigate The Magic Thief.

Spending some time in the modern world (in the "very near future") with Crosstalk.

Most of the way through The Fall of the Shell. The Pelbar Cycle loses a bit of its lustre in this fourth volume, but I still really like the world building in this series.

Just finished Glamour in Glass by Mary Robinette Kowal. A fun second entry in the series.

>15 seitherin: I am so excited for Spinning Silver -- I have it on hold at the library, but might very well just end up buying it before that.

>16 curioussquared: I haven't read much of Spinning Silver yet, but I like it so far. There are three POV characters so far.

Going back in time a bit for a re-read of Master of the Five Magics... an old favorite, which I just noticed has a new book come out in 2017, so seems like an appropriate time for a re-read.

Just finished Hounded by Kevin Hearne. Disappointing. I love the genre (what I call Supernatural Fiction) and he musters all the usual elements, but handles them heavy-handedly; the suspense is limp, and the whole thing is marred with some sophomoric humor (e.g., his animal companion -- standard element -- is a male Irish Wolfhound whose dream is to have a harem of French poodles in heat). I managed to finish it but don't expect to read more of the series.

I'm watching Armageddon come about, or not, in Good Omens.

>22 mattries37315: Have fun with it. Have you seen the film The Omen? It’s a mickey-take of that.

The London Orbital Motorway (M25) is one of those that you seem to get in every country that are supposed to relieve the pressure of traffic and end up being constantly mired in roadworks and traffic jams and don’t make things any better. Aka the dread signal Odega.

>23 humouress: Not really, bits and pieces but it was too boring to catch my interest. I have a general understanding of the plot to get the riffs the book is taking.

I’ve been up and down the Riverland of Rathillien with Jame in Seeker’s Mask.

On to August, when I plan to stay on Rathillien.
