Finished Reamde by Neal Stephenson which turned out to be much more of a thriller with jihadists, Russian mafia, mercenaries, spies, and clever people who know a bit about computers. Really enjoyed it.

Just finished Hell Bay ... Barker and Llewellyn are outside their normal digs in the Scilly Isles at a rather distressing house party. I rather missed the London cast, but a rollicking read all the same.

The Charlemagne Pursuit by Steve Berry
#4 Cotton Malone dried
3.5 ⭐️

Cotton Malone lost his Dad when he was 10 years old. His father, Forest Malone was the Captain of an experimental 11 man submarine called NA-1. It was lost at sea in 1971. Cotton wanted to find out what had really happened to his Dad. To that end, he contacted the head of the super classified Magellan Billet and his friend Stephanie who directed the group. She sent him secret documents that alluded to the sub having actually been lost in the Antarctic rather than the Artic. In a round about manner, this brought Cotton to the Charlemagne Persuit. Twin German sisters are searching for their father who also was aboard the NR-1 sub, but he was a researcher. He was researching a lost Aryan civilization which he tracked to the Antarctic via a book which was buried with Charlemagne. Meanwhile, a US Navy admiral is tying up loose ends as he pursues an appointment to head the Joint Chief of Staffs. Cotton and company seem to be among those loose ends.

An enjoyable fast paced read with many twists and turns.

Coming into the home stretch of The Perfect Ghost a stand-alone novel from Linda Barnes and it's really good. Not that her Carlotta books aren't, but it's different. Glad she didn't try to shoehorn it into the series.

Just finished A Legacy of Spies, John Le Carre's latest spy book which looks back at an old case during the cold war. Not quite sure I was convinced of the premise of the book which is that grown children of some people killed during a covert operation are threatening to take the British government to court for their parents' deaths. Nevertheless it was full of twists and turns and kept me up past my bedtime for a couple of nights.

The Persian Pickle Club was not promoted as a mystery; centers on a group of quilters in Depression-era Kansas, but it turns into a whodunit with a humdinger of an ending. Serendipity.

And I've powered through another book Extraordinary People (the touchstone comes up with a different title, Dry Bones) the first in the Enzo Files series by Peter May. I know I'm late to the party because this book was published in 2006 but somehow it never came to my attention until I had read Peter May's Lewis trilogy. It's a really good mystery set in France with a Scottish forensic scientist as the sleuth.

The Celtic Riddle by Lyn Hamilton
#4 An Archeological Mystery
2 1/2 ⭐️

A fair mystery, but not up to the previous 3. I found the Irish myth storytelling to be rather boring. The whole story revolves around the ancient myths of the founding of Ireland. There was not enough of the archeology, as per previous novels, to keep my attention. I could only read this in small spurts, as the Irish legends were not of interest to me. Be that as it may, I did finish the book. Lara McClintoch went to Ireland with her elderly friend Ales and her Canadian Mounted Policeman’s friend Rob and his daughter. Alex was there to hear the reading of a will written by a man Alex knew decades ago in his Merchant Marine Days. Alex inherits a cottage. However all those in the will receive clues to an ancient Celtic treasure. The treasure could be found if all work together. So, Lara and company decide to stay a bit longer. It is a story of treasure, murder, family funding and revenge.

Just started The Damascened Blade and like what I'm seeing. Always a plus when you can pick up a book mid-series (this is the third, I believe, by Barbara Cleverly) and feel comfortable with the characters, backstory or not.

About 2/3 the way through Redemption Street the second in the Moe Prager series by Reed Farrel Coleman. I liked the first Walking the Perfect Square, which I re-read after many years, and am liking the second. I hope to work my way through the series if I dont get distracted by something else I want to read - which often happens.

The Paris Vendetta by Steve Berry
#4 Cotton Malone Mysteries
4 ⭐️

I enjoyed this episode of Cotton Malone. This wasn’t the typical globe trotting venture for the retired DOJ lawyer/Agent. Cotton’s apartment above his bookstorewas broken into by a young Secret Service Agent named Sam. Sam was urgently seeking help for Cotton’s aged multi billionaire friend Henrik Thorvoldsen. They raced to Henrik’s estate, only fo find that Henrik had taken care of part of the problem himself. Meanwhile a consortium of extremely weathly individuals are on the hunt for the lost treasure of Napoleon, which leads Cotton, Sam, Henrik and Cotton’s former boss Stephanie to Paris. Makes my things more interesting is a world class assassin.
