I received an email this morning from an organization that I support. It began thusly: "As a donor to the Newberry Library, we are writing to share exciting news with you . . ."

A moment ago, a second email arrived. This one said, "As a globally recognized research library that has been open since 1887, we pride ourselves on not including dangling modifiers in the emails we send to our donors. Unfortunately, we did exactly that in the opening sentence of an email you may have received from us this morning. Our apologies."

And that's why I love the Newberry.
