A Thousand Acres was the 1992 Pulitzer winner, and I really liked this book, even the ending. Lately I have had a run of books that seemed to just end, but this one had a good ending, though not of the happily ever after variety. Better than many of the Pulitzers I have been reading. I have only finished 27 so far.

I believe this story was a retelling of Shakespeare's King Lear. Read it many years ago and remember liking it. The movie wasn't too bad, either. Jane Smiley has a few good books. My personal favorite of hers is Horse Heaven. Completely different, though. It's about the horse racing circuit....even includes the point of view of a race horse.
