I was so surprised at how good this book was, at least right up until the end. I hate when books just end, without a real ending. I had put off reading this because the name was so off putting. In the notes at the back it said the author, Edna Ferber, hadn't liked that name either, but couldn't think of any other and so she stuck with her working copy of So Big.
I did get a little tired of the references to historical things in Chicago, since I have never been there, and never plan to. I understand most of her books are like that, so I probably won't read anymore of hers.
Still on this path of reading all the Pulitzers it certainly wasn't among the worst.
So far Independence Day by Richard Ford holds the dubious honor of being the worst.
