Interesting Articles from Atlas Obscura

Atlas Obscura is a collaborative project that celebrates a different way of looking at the world. If you're searching for miniature cities, glass flowers, books bound in human skin, gigantic flaming holes in the ground, bone churches, balancing pagodas, or homes built entirely out of paper, Atlas Obscura is where to find them.

Many thanks for a fascinating post, even if Obscura seems very likely to threaten my already shaky work schedule. I have already spent many minutes pondering the likelihood of the existence of 11 miles of accessible tunnels under LA. Given the combined threat of terrorists and criminals, can this really be possible? Why?
But I'm from Chicago, and I've been in the Atlanta underground, so I know que sera, sera.
Thanks again. Please pray that I don't get the subscription. Has anyone bought the Obscura books, and willing to comment? (I guess I'll go search now)

Why not? Being from Chicago, you must know that we have tunnels, too, though they sometimes flood!

I have not bought their book, but I love their website, and I have gone to an event they did here in Chicago (visiting the control room of Buckingham Fountain) and a trip to Venice last summer for the Festa del Redentore. Both were quite well organized, and lots of fun. I've wanted to do other things with them, but scheduling hasn't worked out.
