Can't remember the name!!!

Young man comes from a shipbuilding family - goes out with a ship on a test run which is attacked by pirates. He survives somehow ? and becomes friends with a boy and a girl who is mysterious about who she is - we later find out that she is the run away daughter of the queen of thieves who has crows flying and looking for her ....they end up at an Inn that is located on the crossroads - you can't go out at night - he and his friends eventually figure out why it is haunted
The Inn has a minstrel who the main character discovers is blind - there are also mischevious pixies
The main chacter also a magnifying glass that his father gave him to help him see things clearly and the feather of a white ocean bird who seems to be watching over him ----
