I think attacks on political participation merit special focus given their significance and the increase in orchestrated assaults on women's rights from the right and religious fundamentalists, amplified by social media to an unprecedented dimension, scope and intensity.

Political representation in democratic systems is the one field where including women ought to find least resistance--where it should be taken for granted that parity in representation is the only logical outcome, to be expected and constantly championed until fulfilled. Equal political representation, while just in itself, is also the crucial gateway to ensuring women's emancipation and affirming the equal value and dignity of female persons to the whole body politic.

It is therefore not surprising that women in politics are obstructed and actively suppressed.
