Conspiracy theory author Jim Marrs died August 2 st the age of 73. His books include Crossfire: the Plot that Killed Kennedy and Rule by Secrecy.

The editor who rescued Anne Frank's Diary from the rejection pile, Judith Jones died August 2 at the age of 93. Her books include The Tenth Muse and The Pleasures of Cooking for One.

Former Notre Dame football coach Ara Parseghian died August 2 at the age of 94. He wrote Parseghian and Notre Dame Football.

Best known for his role in All Creatures Great and Small and as Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge in the Harry Potter franchise, actor Robert Hardy died August 3 at the age of 91. Interestingly enough, he was an expert on the English long bow and wrote Longbow: A Social and Military History.

Former Phillies catcher Darren Daulton died August 6 at the age of 55. He wrote If they Only Knew.

Journalist Richard Dudman died August 3 at the age of 99. He wrote Forty Days with the Enemy and Men of the Far Right.

Founder of the Giller Literary Prize, Jack Rabinovitch died August 6 at the age of 87. He edited The Scotiabank Giller Prize.

Holocaust denier Ernst Zundel died August 5 at the age of 78. His books include Did Six Million Really die and Setting the Record Straight.

Baseball player Don Baylor died August 5 at the age of 68. He wrote Don Baylor: Nothing but the Truth.

Country & Western folksinger Glen Campbell died August 8 at age 81. He wrote Rhinestone Cowboy: An Autobiography.

Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist, best known as a Dick Tracy illustrator, Dick Locher died August 6 at the age of 88. His books include Flying Can be Fun and Which one is the None of the Above Button.

Mexican cartoonist Eduardo Humberto de Rio Garcia aka Rius died August 8 at the age of 84. His works include Comics de Ruis and Mis Supermachos.

Food critic Christian Millau died August 5 at the age of 88. His books include Dining in France and The Best of New York.

Judge George Bundy Smith died August 5 at the age of 80. He wrote You Decide! Applying the Bill of Rights to Real Cases.

Photographer Arlene Gottfried died August 8 at the age of 66. Her work includes Midnight and Sometimes Overwhelming.

Economist, Prof. Marshall I. Goldman, died August 2 at the age of 87. His many books include Petrostate and Gorbachev's Challenge.

Baseball umpire Ken Kaiser died August 8 at the age of 72. He wrote Planet of the Umps: A Baseball Life Behind the Plate.

Former Arkansas football coach Frank Broyles died August 14 at the age of 92. He wrote Coach Broyles' Playbook for Alzheimer Caregivers and Hog Wild: The Autobiography of Frank Broyles.

Richard Gordon died 11 August 2017 age 95. His first book Doctor in the House was written aboard ship and was followed by many more. He got fed up with the genre but was persuaded to carrry on.

Medical missionary Dr. Ruth Pfau, who ministered to lepers in Pakistan, died August 17 at the age of 87. Her works include Verruckter kann man gar nicht leben and Das Herz hat seine Grunde.

Expert on the blues, Paul Oliver died August 15 at the age of 90. His books include The Story of the Blues, Blues Fell This Morning: Meaning in the Blues and The New Grove Gospel Blues and Jazz.

Architect Gunnar Birkerts died August 15 at the age of 92. His books include Process and Expression in Architectural Form and Gunnar Birkerts Buildings, Projects and Thoughts.

Political activist and comedian, Dick Gregory died August 19th at the age of 84. His books include From the Back of the Bus, Nigger: An Autobiography and Dick Gregory's Natural Diet for Folks Who Eat.

Comedian, actor and film maker Jerry Lewis died August 20 at the age of 91. His books include Dean and me: A Love Story and The Total Film Maker.

British television personality Bruce Forsyth died August 18 at the age of 89. He wrote Bruce: The Autobiography and Golf...Is It Only a Game?.

Brian Aldiss passed away on August 19 (his birthday). I'm just truly sad.

Shakespeare scholar Ann Jennalie Cook (aka Ann Cook Calhoun) died August 13 at the age of 82. Her husband Gerry Calhoun died in the same hospice on the same day. She was the author of the influential book The Privileged Playgoers of Shakespeare's London, 1576-1642.

Professor who dug up lost New York history, Leo Herskowitz died August 10 at the age of 92. His books include Tweed's New York, Courts and Law in Early New York and Wills of Early New York Jews.

Sci-fi author Brian Aldiss died August 19 at the age of 92. Some of his more popular books include Helliconia Spring and Non-Stop.

Polish playwright Janusz Glowacki died August 19 at the age of 78. His work includes Z Glowy, Good Night, Dzerzi and Hunting Cockroaches (a Play).

New Zealand rugby star Colin Meads died August 20 at the age of 81. His autobiography was titled simply Colin Meads.

Author Thomas Meehan wrote many books to accompany Broadway plays including Annie (An Annie Book) and Hairspray: The Complete Book and Lyrics. He died August 14 at the age of 88.

Gordon Williams died 20 August 2017. He wrote Straw Dogs which was made into a film. He also wrote From Scenes Like These which was short-listed for the inaugural Booker Prize in 1969 but was pipped at the post by Something to Answer For.

Sean O'Callaghan died 23rd August age 62. He was an IRA gunman but later changed sides. He wrote The Informer

Sally Fiber died 14th August age 81. She was brought up in a London pub and published her (or perhaps its) autobiography The Fitzroy: The Autobiography of a London Tavern in 1995.

Also Ernst Zündel died August 6th age 78. He was a neo-Nazi publisher who was prosecuted for Holocaust denial.

Horror film director Tobe Hooper died August 26 at the age of 74. He wrote Midnight Movie.

Childbirth specialist Dr. Marshall H Klaus died August 15 at the age of 90. His books include The Doula Book and Mothering the Mother.

Music critic Sue Steward died August 24 at the age of 70. Her books include Signed, Sealed and Delivered: True Life Stories of Women in Pop and Musica!: The Rhythm of Latin America.

Playwright Bernard Pomerance died August 26 at the age of 76. He is best known for The Elephant man.

Publisher Howard Kaminsky died August 26 at the age of 77. His books include The Twelve, Magic Words and Talent.

Wildlife film maker Alan Root died August 26 at the age of 80. He wrote Ivory, Apes and Peacocks.

Former Michigan State basketball coach Jud Heathcote died August 29 at the age of 90. He wrote Jud: A Magical Journey.

Fashion retailer Sir David Tang died August 30 at the age of 63. He wrote Rules for Modern Life: A Connoisseur's Survival Guide.

Novelist Elaine Ford died August 27 at the age of 78. Her books include Ivory Bright and Monkey Bay.

Self-help author Louise Hay died August 30 at the age of 90. Her books include You Can Heal Your Life and Heal Your Body.

Michael Cromartie promoted journalist's reporting of religion. He died August 28 at the age of 67. His books include Caesar's Coin Revisited, A Preserving Grace and Creation at Risk?.

Novelist Susan Vreeland died August 23 at the age of 71. Her books include The Girl in Hyacinth Blue and The Passion of Artemisia.

In 1992, British real estate agent Stephanie Slater was kidnapped by a serial killer and held prisoner for eight days. Ms. Slater died August 31 at the age of 50. She wrote Kidnappet! and Beyond fear: My Will to Survive.

British politician Edward du Cann died August 31 at the age of 93. His books include The Duke of Wellington: And his Political Career After Waterloo and Two Lives: The Political and Business Careers of Edward du Cann.

Jack Keil was the advertising executive who created McGruff the Crime Dog. Mr. Keil died August 25 at the age of 94. He wrote The Creative Mystique and How to Zig in a Zagging World: Unleashing Your Hidden Creativity.

Sister Mary David Totah OSB died August 28th 2017 age 60. She was Prioress of St Cecilia's Abbey on the Isle of Wight and wrote Confirmation: the Spirit of Christ and also anthology "Walled About With God" in 2005.

Manager of London's Groucho Club, Bernie Katz died August 31 at the age of 49. He wrote Soho Society.

Leader in the improvement of anesthesia, Dr. Edmond I. Eger II died August 26 at the age of 86. He wrote The Pharmacology of Inhaled Anesthetics and The Wondrous Story of Anesthesia.

Playwright Ann Jellicoe died August 31 at the age of 90. Her work includes The Knack: A Comedy in Three Acts, The Knack and the Sport of My Mad Mother and Devon.

John Sturrock died August 15th (Feast of the Assumption) 2017 age 87. He had a spell at TLS and later at London Review of Books. He was a reviewer and translator. His own works included The Word from Paris.
