Books for Christmas

So what did you get for Christmas as far as books go. I got the following ones:

I didn't get any books.

However, I did get two gift cards. $40 for borders (which I jsut used online to purchase the Sleeping Beauty trilogy) and a $50 for Barnes and Noble

I got The Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming, Game of Patience, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, and Do Elephants Jump? (touchstone not working). I also got a $30 gift card for B&N and $50 intended to be used for books.

Oh, I also got a Bookopoly game set! Instead of buying railroads, you buy genres, and instead of jail you watch tv, lol. All the properties are classic books, and instead of a $200 tax, you have to hire a book mite terminator, lol.

To my slight horror, my parents decided to purchase the entire wish list I gave them -- a list that was supposed to be distributed among relatives and only used as a guideline for those who didn't want to give me gift cards. As a result, I ended up with this rather unwieldy Christmas haul:

kabrahamson, that's quite a list! I just received Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell from my SantaThing, and I'm looking forward to picking it up. I recently finished The Lace Reader -- I found the first couple of chapters to be a little hard to get through, but don't give up!

Megz, when you're finished with the Twilight series (and if you like it), try The Host, also by Stephanie Meyer. I enjoyed it more than the Twilight books (gasp!).

I got The Partly Cloudy Patriot too! And Assassination Vacation. I haven't read anything by Sarah Vowell before, but she does get great word of mouth. I'm excited to get reading.

I loved Assassination Vacation, which explains why I asked for the others. I knew I'd love her when I heard that she cites the television show Sports Night on people inappropriately comparing themselves to Rosa Parks in The Partly Cloudy Patriot. But I read Assassination Vacation first because presidential assassination is a favorite topic of mine, which would be far creepier a thing to say if it weren't because of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins. If you don't understand that now, you will after you start the book because she talks about it in the first chapter.

I've just joined Librarything too and have been telling all my friends about it.

I didn't get any books for Christmas. I didn't get a B&N giftcard either. I could always count on my dad for that sort of stuff but the last few years, he's been, umm, lax on that front.
