Oh, I also got a Bookopoly game set! Instead of buying railroads, you buy genres, and instead of jail you watch tv, lol. All the properties are classic books, and instead of a $200 tax, you have to hire a book mite terminator, lol.

Well, let us know what books you buy Poetontheone.

And I must admit, I'm kind of jealous of the Bookopoloy game!

HI there! I am new to the group and new to LibraryThing as well. I love this site.

As for the question, I received a $50 gift card to B & N. My wonderful hubby. I think I will pre-order Plum Lucky.

I couldn't resist using my WHOLE gift card at Barnes & Noble when I went to the mall today. I picked up:

Atonement by Ian McEwan
The Autobiography of Malcolm X
No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea by Yukio Mishima

I'm excited to read these.

I figured if I bought new instead of used online my TBR pile wouldn't grow THAT much bigger... =)

Don't Move by Margaret Mazzantini (It's fantastic by the way. I read half in one day.)
Jazz by Toni Morrison (I've always wanted to read one of her books.)
Breakfast At Tiffany's by Truman Capote (he is fast becomming one of my favorite authors)
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis (another favorite author)
The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis
Under Gemni by Rosamunde Pilcher ( A beach read worthy of more than a second glance at a garage sale)
Who You Are When No One's Looking by Bill Hybels

Two books which I think contain C. S. Lewis' entire non-fiction works, a Betty Crocker cook book, and enough Amazon Kindle gift certificates to buy about 2/3 of a Kindle. :) I was also given a BaM gift card, which I used to pick up some travel and history books.

To my slight horror, my parents decided to purchase the entire wish list I gave them -- a list that was supposed to be distributed among relatives and only used as a guideline for those who didn't want to give me gift cards. As a result, I ended up with this rather unwieldy Christmas haul:

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book by Brian Froud, Terry Jones
Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke
Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake
Through a Glass Darkly by Karleen Koen
The Virgin in the Garden by A. S. Byatt
Babel Tower by A. S. Byatt
A Whistling Woman by A. S. Byatt
The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry
Kilmeny of the Orchard by L. M. Montgomery
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Sparks
The Mighty Book of Boosh by Julian Barratt, Noel Fielding
The Selected Journals of L. M. Montgomery, Volumes 2-4
Ulysses by James Joyce

I got these books for Christmas:

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer

My mom couldn't find books 3 and 4 of the Trilogy

kabrahamson, that's quite a list! I just received Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell from my SantaThing, and I'm looking forward to picking it up. I recently finished The Lace Reader -- I found the first couple of chapters to be a little hard to get through, but don't give up!

Megz, when you're finished with the Twilight series (and if you like it), try The Host, also by Stephanie Meyer. I enjoyed it more than the Twilight books (gasp!).

In addition to Jonathan Strange I was excited to receive:
A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth
Complete Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Wild Animals I Have Known by Ernest Thompson Seton
and a Barnes and Noble gift card... which, surprisingly, I haven't yet spent. Too many choices. :)

My sister bought me women, fire and dangerous things and king, queen, knave both of which she randomly picked from my amazon wishlist.

MY mom bought me a sewing book as I've been learning how to sew called sew u. I was hoping for some cookbooks though.

I also bought some books for myself with the money I got, so that makes up for the lack of books.

I recieved Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult. I got a giftcard to Borders and Target so I can buy more books =)

OK, here's an epic list!

Before Christmas I bought myself a few little, er, 'presents':
Library Confidential by Don Borchett
Firmin by Sam Savage
Bipolar Expeditions by Emily Martin

On Christmas Day itself I got more books:
Green Angel by Alice Hoffman
Shakespeare and Company by Sylvia Beach
The Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran
On Reading by Andre Kertsez (a photography collection)
The Secret Lives of Men and Women by Frank Warren (PostSecret)
Quiet Please: Dispatches from a Public Librarian by Scott Douglas

Then about two days later I went online and have just received:
Stranger on a Train by Jenny Diski
Moan About Men by Juliana Foster
Among the Bohemians by Virginia Nicholson
Bohemian Manifesto by Laren Stover
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer, AND FINALLY
Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

OK, so this is a bit ridiculous, kind of drives it home having it in a list. But it's my version of shoe addiction - the sweet Bill Amberg leather bound The Picture of Dorian Gray has already caught my devoted eye...

Glory Road
The Partly Cloudy Patriot
Take the Cannoli
Off the Main Sequence
Mysteries of Pittsburgh
The Day After Tomorrow
The City on the Edge of Forever

Also a gift card for Half Price Books which I used to purchase Victory of Eagles, and a B&N gift card which I haven't used up yet (some of it went for Thank You notes).

I got The Partly Cloudy Patriot too! And Assassination Vacation. I haven't read anything by Sarah Vowell before, but she does get great word of mouth. I'm excited to get reading.

I loved Assassination Vacation, which explains why I asked for the others. I knew I'd love her when I heard that she cites the television show Sports Night on people inappropriately comparing themselves to Rosa Parks in The Partly Cloudy Patriot. But I read Assassination Vacation first because presidential assassination is a favorite topic of mine, which would be far creepier a thing to say if it weren't because of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins. If you don't understand that now, you will after you start the book because she talks about it in the first chapter.

I've just joined Librarything too and have been telling all my friends about it.

I got The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman and some Waterstones vouchers. I've also been to Borders this morning and am counting what I got there as late presents to myself:

The Watchmen Allan Moore

War and Peace Leo Tolstoy

Twilight collectors edition by Stephanie Meyer
The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb
Super Crunchers by Ian Ayres
Yes Man by Danny Wallace
A Spy by Nature by Charles Cumming
The Water's Lovely by Ruth Rendell
Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

I read Twilight (loved it) and am in the middle of The Hour I First Believed, which is really good so far. Wally Lamb is an excellent storyteller.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
Tales of Beedle the Bard

I'm new to the group so hello everyone! Cheers.

b00kw0rm007: I will NEVER stop singing the praises of The Devil in the White City. I read it a couple years ago and still suggest it to people that are interested in a really good story. Enjoy!

Welcome to the group. Neverwhere is a great book - I actually feel jealous that you've got it still to read. If you like Neil Gaiman, go for American Gods next. Enjoy.

Thanks, I actually just finished reading American Gods and really liked it. I don't know how I have gone so long without reading Neil Gaiman.

I didn't get any books for Christmas. I didn't get a B&N giftcard either. I could always count on my dad for that sort of stuff but the last few years, he's been, umm, lax on that front.

I envy all your new reading everyone! Good luck getting to it all hehe
