Joan Lee, wife of comic book legend Stan Lee, died July 6 at the age of 93. She wrote a book in 1987, which does not appear on LT, called The Pleasure Palace. According to her daughter, Mrs. Lee had three more finished, but unpublished novels at home.

Mavis Arnold, a journalist, died July 18th age 80 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She wrote The Children of the Poor Clares which told the story of a school/orphanage in Ireland. A fire broke out in 1943 and 35 girls died — the sisters having locked them in a dormitory so that the public would not see them in their nightclothes. It was in the 1970s that Arnold began to unearth story against opposition.
