They just removed ALL of the photos I have posted and replaced them with a notice that I need to upgrade my account to allow 3rd party hosting. And they want an annual fee of $399 to do it! Does anyone know of another program I can use or another way to upload photos from my computer to my LT pages? This really sucks!

This was a sick move. No warning and ridiculously expensive.

Have you lost the photos altogether, or only the ability to hotlink them?

Horrible site. I had used it for a long time mostly satisfactorily, but in the last few years it deteriorated beyond redemption. The worst is that I hadn't finished downloading my albums (I started doing that after they deleted an account without warning--and of course I had no backup. Goodbye forever my lovely Cuban album.) I checked right now and the page is a bunch of broken links, although the reports say it's up. I can't even log out from the damn thing.

But to answer your question at least in part, you can upload photos to your Junk Drawer here on LT and link to them. As for a photo site, not sure what's available or best currently.

>2 dchaikin: I have most of the photos saved on disc and or on the computer. It's just that we're talking about hundreds of book cover and other photos. I can still get into my albums there to view photos, but I haven't tried yet to see if I can copy any others to my computer or a disk. And I certainly don't have time to recopy all the photos from years of book tracking threads that are now gone. My current threads are so ugly right now!

>3 LolaWalser: Where do I find Junk Drawer? The only thing I could find on LT last night was linking with an HTML code to a photo's URL, which doesn't help with photos saved on my computer.

>5 Cariola:

Click on "Edit your profile" (on your Profile page), then look left and to the bottom, "Member Gallery". Click on that--there's Gallery and within it, Junk Drawer. When you click on Add Picture you'll see options on where you want to add it (Gallery or Junk), and whether it's from your computer or a link etc.

By the way, you don't have to copy every individual photo from PB, there is the option to download a whole album into a compressed zip file. Lucky you if you can still see your photos... If only they'd let me in so I could finish doing it and get the hell out!

Here's info on how to do it:

I'm intrigued. What is PB, and what has it got to do with LT?

Photobucket is a photo storing/sharing program. A lot of us use it or another program to share photos on our LT threads. If you go to my Club Read thread, you will see that I had a lovely opening post and books covers on each of my reviews. Which have now been replaced by their stupid logo, which informs me that they are holding my photos hostage for $399.

>7 LolaWalser: I just went to PB, and I can't even sign in anymore. There is a list of FAQs, and it says "Don't worry! Your photos are safe!" even if you have gotten the warning; just sign in to see them. Well, I can't.

I will try to use the Junk Drawer, but probably I won't be able to size any of the pictures.

>7 LolaWalser: Junk Drawer will only post a link; doesn't work with the usual HTML formula. No one is going to click a bunch of links to see my photos; they were there to make the thread look good. I'll have to try another suggestion. There are several over on my 75 Books Challenge thread.

Hm, not sure what you mean. Once you upload photos to your Gallery or Junk drawer, you can link to them (post them into threads) using HTML. For example, right click on the photo you want, choose copy link (or "image address") and paste that into the following string: {img src="copiedimageadress.jpg"}. Note: Change the curly brackets for angular.

Resizing is simple: add a width or height (I prefer width) dimension into the string, for example: {img src="copiedimageaddress.jpg" width=350}. Change up or down from 350 as desired.

It's a bit more involved than the click-and-post from PB, but one gets used to it fast, I swear! :)

>12 LolaWalser: I also use something similar to that string in my thread and it works fine.

>4 Cariola: I've never used PhotoBucket, but I noticed you mentioned book covers. You can use the book cover image that is here on LT. Click on the cover image, right-click on the image to open the image in a new page (or on a mac control+click), paste the url into the code >12 LolaWalser: provided. Set the height or width as you like.

I recently deleted my account on Photobucket. All of my photos were on one or another of my devices anyway. PB's ad pop-ups were driving me crazy and continued even as I was trying to delete the damn thing. I haven't used it for ages now, using the junk drawer for any photos that are not book covers. I don't know what the storage capacity of the junk drawer is, but I've gone back and deleted earlier posted photos (when I think most have seen it) as I added new ones.

For book covers I have always used the html line of code that Lola & Vivienne are referring to. It might take some adjustment but it will soon come easily to you.

>15 avaland: Thanks. I used the Junk Drawer to get my current threads up to date--not going to bother with the older ones.

BTW, I finished watching the new version of The Handmaid's Tale last night--pretty great! And I'm about to start Harlots tonight. Thanks for the recs over on FB.

>16 Cariola: I liked "Harlots" for good distraction entertainment (being something disabled at the moment I have watched way too much television). I also watched "Cardinal" on Hulu; it's based on the Giles Blunt crime novel Forty Words for Sorrow and the 3rd season of the very find "Line of Duty". We also watched the very rude and satirical (but the language was just so, so funny) "Hinterby." So, we got our money out of the free intro + one month of Hulu.
