After a loooong winter, I've bought the last books of Fables (I stopped reading by Fables Vol.12 and the whole collection has 23 books). I started reading it again from Fables Vol.1 and I can say that I really love this series, with all its high and lows.

>4 apokoliptian: I need to get around and collect the rest of those. Although I am going with the newer deluxe hardcovers :) But I agree - it is a marvelous series.

I am finally unpacking more boxes so my comics and GNs are showing up again. So maybe I will get around to reading them again...

The covers of Fables Deluxe Edition Nine onward (i.e. after James Jean) make me want to buy it all again. They are so beautiful, clear and wide that they look like Hipgnosis Studio's cover art, like in Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin's albums.

>4 apokoliptian: Oh boy, you are reminding me that I didn't finish this series yet either. :/

>6 apokoliptian: There is that. And the format does not hurt (I am really not the kind of person that wants the same format exactly as the comics and all that).

Well, Valerian and Laureline is just as 70s-tastic as expected; overall I enjoyed it. Now I'm reading the first two volumes of Giant Days.

The best one I've read this month is Jeff Lemire's Roughneck. Anyone who enjoyed his remarkable Essex County will like this one, featuring a former pro hockey player down on his luck, and his drug-addicted sister, who are both trying to put their lives back together.

There is a new book by Jeff Lemire and Scott Snyder called A.D.: After Death that seems to be good.

I'm reading books discovered last week at my local public library:

How to Understand Israel in 60 Days or Less, a thoughtful memoir of the author's Birthright Israel trip.

The iZombie Omnibus. Checking this out because I like the tv show. I'm enjoying the comics, even though most everything differs from the show: the protagonist's name, occupation, friends, city. But she looks the same!

The Complete Zap Comix Boxed Set. (Well, just volume 3 to start with, of the 5-volume set.) I lost track of Zap after the 1970's, so it's fun to catch up on the later issues. Some absolutely stunning work from Spain, Williams, Wilson & Crumb.

Wuvable Oaf: Blood & Metal. I think Ed Luce is a warped genius of graphic design and storytelling.

Those first two I would expect to see in a public library collection. But Zap and Wuvable Oaf? All respect to my librarians!

A good friend of mine gifted me the Brazilian edition of Espadas e Bruxas by Esteban Maroto, which compilates his Sword and Sorcery stories. Maroto is a master of the pen and ink and is known for the creation of the famous Red Sonja's "Steel Bikini". His Barbarian Wolff was published before the Marvel's version of Conan and his influence can be seen on the designs used by Barry Windsor-Smith and John Buscema.

I don't know if there is an American edition, but it is worth a try.

Made a library run, and I'm finishing up July with Giant Days Vol. 3, Blue Is the Warmest Color, and Harrow County Vol. 1.

I've read Locke & Key: Small World, the latest one-shot spin-off of Joe Hill's saga. Gabriel Rodriguez's art is as good as always and the story is very fun, opening new possiblities for the world of Keyhouse (there is even a small interview with the authors teasing a 2nd volume of the series).

There is a promise of a TV series, what would be a very suitable way of adaptating this book if it had a Netflix-like freedom.
