We've officially reached the halfway point of the Poldark saga! Time to start reading and discussing book #7, The Angry Tide. Please post any thoughts, comments, discussion questions, or reviews below!

It's been a looong time since I read this one, though much of the plot will be on my mind from watching the old BBC series, which still sticks in my head.

I'm at the halfway point and Pascoes Bank, Drake & Morwenna are all at critical point.... Will have to read a couple more chapters...

Well I stayed up late to finish and for me, Elizabeth's fate was sealed as soon as she went to that London doctor. Morwenna and Drake...the suspense and at long last wedded

Even though I've read it before, and saw the series, I'm going to wait to read your spoilers. I'm about 5-6 chapters in at this point, I think. Dwight just told Ross that his daughter has a heart issue, and won't live much longer.

Oh, and here's my cover:

It's hard to say anything much without a spoiler.

I started it a couple days ago and am about 100 pages in...enjoying it so far, although Ossie continues to be the WORST. I have to say, I find George much more tolerable!

>9 christina_reads: you won't like George in this book, either. He might seem to be more tolerable due to Ossie being such a snake.

I did a lot of reading last night, and I'm over halfway through. I adore Demelza. While Ross is away, she still manages to use her wits to do what needs to be done in order to preserve her family and their home. I love Ross' reaction when he finally arrives at Nampara, too.

I'd forgotten about the Pascoe/Pearce storyline! That's what twenty years between reads will do to you.

And I also love it that Jud and Prudie are still in the picture, though only in small bits.

Ooh! Take a look at this page: http://www.poldark.org.uk/cornwall.html

A lot happens in this one! Thank goodness Ossie gets his just desserts.

>11 jnwelch: if you've not seen Ossie die in the original series, you're missing a good scene.

>11 jnwelch: Should have been a more painful death in my opinion.

>12 fuzzi: I must watch the series now I've finished this.

>12 fuzzi: It's been too long since I saw the first one, fuzzi. I should see it again. (I'm sure enjoying the new one).

>13 avatiakh: Ha! Agreed, Kerry. No death would have been awful.

I've not seen any of the new series, but I do own the entire original series on DVD (thanks to my dh!).

I always see the original players as I read, now, unless I don't recall what they looked like. It has been a while...

Done, and contemplating my review.

I'd totally forgotten about Monk Adderly and his duel with Ross.

I'm so glad that Caroline and Dwight are back together, and Morwenna and Drake, too.

And I loved what Ross told Demelza after she told him about her attempt to keep Pascoe's bank from failing. In case you missed it, he said "You're worth all of Westminster" or something like that. :)

The musings of George Warleggan on the loss of Elizabeth display how good a writer Winston Graham was. The inner feelings/workings of George are not just a simple "bad", but are very complicated, and show what a tortured man he truly is, warped and bitter.

Now, for those who want to know where the next book is headed, a slight spoiler: there's a time gap of over a decade between The Angry Tide and The Stranger From the Sea.

Lots of dramatic events in this book! Like the rest of you, I'm super glad that Ossie finally got his comeuppance and that Morwenna now has a chance at happiness! I already knew about Elizabeth's death because I had googled "The Angry Tide" and seen a big fat honking spoiler right in the headline of one of the search results!

I'm curious -- for those of you who don't already know how the series ends, what would be an ideal ending for you? The Poldarks decisively beating the Warleggans in their years-long feud, or the two families finally reconciling? Personally, I'm rooting for the latter!

>17 christina_reads: I've read the entire series, up to and including the last book, Bella Poldark and will therefore not respond to your question. ;)

BTW, I consider the final book to be one of the best in the series...just sayen...

OMG. So much happened in this book! And it's so hard to discuss without spoilers!
First thank goodness we have seen the end of Ossie. How I loathed him. I am so happy for Drake.
Then A duel! Oh my!! I could not stand how brazen Monk was. The mouth on him. Thank goodness Ross was not more hurt.
And Poor Caroline, to loose her babe.
Finally, Elizabeth! Oh, when George told Ross and Ross flew up those stairs, I thought I was reading Wuthering Heights all over again, LOL

Several months later, I finally read The Angry Tide! OOOOOMG.

DING DONG the Whitworth's dead! I read that scene on the bus and had to work very hard to suppress my whoops of delight. I am a bit disappointed that Morwenna didn't get to poison him, though.

Also, glad I finished this at home because there were many big fat tears for Elizabeth :'(

Also also, the scenes involving Monk Adderly and his "pursuit" of Demelza were depressingly relevant to the 21st century, particularly when she felt she had to placate him in order to fit into London society.
