Military Fiction group?

Greetings! Does anyone here know whether there is a Military Fiction group on LT? I went to the Groups homepage, but if there is a place there to run a search for group titles or topics, I didn't find it. Thanks!

There are the group tags at the top of the page that you can use to find a group, and you can also do a site search in the box in the upper right and then select a Group search on the Search page (on the left side of the page).

I couldn't figure out what you meant by "group tags at the top of the page that you can use to find a group" but I did use the "search site" box and then the Group search as you recommended. That came up with four groups, one actually called Military Fiction, but all four dormant. sad to say.

The other three, by the way, were an Egyptian Fiction group, an Aerial Warfare group (which didn't seem particularly specific to fiction) and a group dedicated to Patrick O'Brien.

Anyway, it's not an especially urgent issue for me. I am an occasional reader of military fiction at most and was just wondering what was available here. Specifically, I am reading The Uprising, the second book of Väinö Linna's "Under the North Star" trilogy, a classic of Finnish literature. The Uprising deals in most part with the 3-month, very brutal, Finnish Civil War of 1918, mostly from the point of view of the rebel Red army (according to the book's introduction, they were Social Democrats for the most part rather than Communists). I speculated about posting about this reading somewhere, as how much reading do you get to do in English, fictional or otherwise, about that conflict?

The only difference between a dormant group and a live one is that a dormant groups hasn't been posted to in in 12 months. That military fiction group still has 43 members so if you post something to it, then those 43 people may see it, if they're still active on Talk depending on how they read groups. In fact anyone who hasn't ignored the group will see it if they use Talk with the All Topics setting.

The very top of the Groups page is Group Tags and if you click on one of them it will show you all the groups that have been tagged with that term. At the end of the tag list is the link labelled (see more tags) which you can use to see all of the tags. There isn't a military fiction tag but you could click on the military tag and browse through the groups that are returned.

>4 jjwilson61: Sure, I understand that. In the case of the Military Fiction group, though, the most recent post is 2010. I'm just not that motivated to try to revive a group whose members haven't posted in seven years. Not saying right or wrong; that's just the way it strikes me. Maybe I'll give it a try next time I read a book that is expressly "military fiction." The Uprising is more an historical novel about Finnish history that has a battle narrative component.

I could, of course, but I was more interested in a group that was expressly dedicated to military fiction, which would most likely include that tag. Maybe someday I'll poke around with that and see what turns up. As I said in #3, it's not all that urgent for me.
