Bringing back the blue!

Does anyone remember the "good old days" when unread posts had a pale blue header bar, while read posts were brown? I remember when.. and also the furore when that easy-to-see arrangement was replaced by two shades of brown.

There is a way to bring it back if, like me, you preferred the blue/brown arrangement. First you have to download an extension for your browser called Stylish. I know it exists for Firefox and Safari, but I'm not sure about other browsers (Google will tell you..).

Stylish puts a little S button in your browser's toolbar.

1. Click it to 'manage your styles'.

2. Click Edit to create a new style, and give it a name e.g. "LT read/unread"

3. Add this code:

}
.talktopic .mh.mR {
border-color: #EAE6E5 !important;
background-color: #F5F1F0 !important;
}

4. In the first Domain name box below, put in librarything.com

5. Save your new style .. that's it! The blue will be back, though you may have to relaunch your browser to see it.

Also, you can change the colour values (#NNNNNN) to be something that suits better what you want.

can you post a before and after screenshot, because I don't remember what you're talking about.

I don't use custom styles and I see unvisited links as the browser default blue, visited links as the browser default purple.

The change was years ago. I doubt anyone has a screenshot floating around.

This is not talking about links, it's about, as Tid says, the header bar (the part where the post number, name of the poster, and timestamp) that appears at the top of each Talk post.

Links on a page are different than individual posts on an LT Talk group thread. The Stylish hack affects the bar (such as the one beside your post) not the links.

Ok. Thanks. Sorry, prefer the current setup. It's clear enough to me. There is plenty of contrast and the old way would completely break the current colour design.

LT still keeps the default browser colours for links, that's good.

Well, no. The current colour design (of the site as a whole, I take it you mean) precedes the change from blue. It's good that you can see the difference clearly enough with two shades of brown/salmon/mushroom (whatever), but some of us liked the immediacy of the contrast between blue and pale brown/salmon/mushroom (whatever).

To me it makes as little sense as Apple removing all colour from their sidebars, though the difference there is that NO-ONE outside Cupertino seems to agree with them.

Anyway, this group is about "hacking LT", so this particular advice is meant for those who liked the old way, and those who don't can ignore it.
