My first post of each thread is dedicated to my favorite things. This thread it's APPLES (red delicious.) I love them cold out of the frig.

I thought of doing AIR but figured that everyone loves air - especially after about sixty to ninety seconds of having to holding your breath. Then I thought about ANSWERS. But how would that be illustrated? Questions are easy - use a question mark. But answer is ended with a period or exclamation point but other sentences end with them, too. Unlike with a question mark. Only a question ends with a question mark. Oh, what problems we have...

I'm Morphy. I've been getting into trouble on Library Thing for over 10 years, in my marriage for over 26 years, and on this planet for over 51 years. You'd think I'd be better at it but, no, I still have to keep practicing. We're the proud owners (HA!) of a 10 pound white ball of fluff. Maia's a sweet heart. Until she's not.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1FCqDJMWgY

I read anywhere between 250 - 350 books a year depending on my mood and what else is going on. My favorite genre is urban fantasy (about 60% of my reading) but I'll read just about anything including fantasy, science fiction, mystery, romance, general fiction, narrative non-fiction, YA, and classics. If I'm in the mood, I'll drop into historical fiction, horror, magical realism, suspense/thriller, memoir, children's, essays and comedy. I'll even read some literary fiction and western if my arm gets twisted. (Ugh, stop it, Mark! Joe, don't encourage him!)

Where does the Pop Sugar challenge come from? That looks interesting.

(See, when I set up my Cat Challenge thread and said I couldn't manage too many complicated categories because I'm so busy that my reading mustn't become a task, what I overlooked was my pathological tendency towards excessive list addiction ... I am beyond assistance!)

It's been a busy (interesting) week. I think I mentioned our furnace went out awhile ago. What happened was the condensate pump (pump that pulls humidity from air) was not wired correctly and that eventually caused the main board to short out. An electrician needed to run in a new GFI (ground fault interrupter) to a terminating outlet versus an inline outlet. The furnace guy temporarily fixed it by running an extension cord to a terminating outlet.

SRC, the company that's been doing all the work on our house called to do an inspection and we told them the electrician never came out to do the fix. They arranged it and the electrician came out within days. Then SRC came out for the inspection. They were the nicest people! I have to admit, all the people during this entire months long process have been lovely. Even when mistakes were made, everyone was good about getting things fixed.

Anyone, during the inspection, they found more things they wanted to get fixed - a baffle around the water heater exhaust, a crack in the foundation that's letting in air they want to plug, and an area of dirt and rock in the basement they want to cover in plastic (something about it letting in ground gas like radon?)

Anyway, that was Wednesday, and we already got a call about someone coming in Tuesday to look at the crack. He's not the one to fix it, but another person at SRC who has to decided exactly what work will be done.

***

Meanwhile, yesterday I started and today MrMorphy started to come down with a cold. Mine started in my throat (laryngitis) as usual and his in his nose. And we both have that "sick brain" feeling where you lose about 30 - 40 IQ points. I've slept half the day away. Blech.

I haven't been much up to reading so I watched Hellboy last night and I'm watching Good Will Hunting tonight.

***

I've been reading one chapter a day of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the #hpchapteraday challenge at Litsy. That's been about all my reading thus far this month. Though my goals are much more ambitious.

Speaking of moaning and groaning - why oh why does he do that? I'll get up in the morning and he'll moan and groan until I ask what's wrong. "My neck hurts." "My back hurts." "I'm tired and didn't sleep well."

Why didn't you just say so instead of this #%%^* game? It's gotten to the point where I just ignore all the sounds. If he wants me to know, he has to use words.

TheBoyfriend readily admits he's being pathetic when I inform him of it. It doesn't reduce the amount of moaning he does, but when I tell him he's being pathetic it seems to do well for both of us - I get to insult him and take the piss out of him, and he gets his pain and suffering acknowledged in some way. Seems to work for us, and we both feel better for it. I think it helps that he never pretends he's being anything less than feeble!

Moaning & groaning is just a way to vent to the universe, at least for me. (ETA that the only creatures who are usually around when I'm engaging in M&G are my parrots, and they do not care.)

BTW, it sounds like MrMorphy and I have a lot in common. #1 Senior body aches & pains; #2 Exercise? What is this thing you call "exercise?"; and #3 Are the aches & pains caused by depression or the depression caused by the aches and pains or do they feed each other?

I'm guilty of sighing and scowling when I'm unwell, but I'm not asking for anyone to ask after me - I'm just cranky when I feel poorly. My partner is always asking after me anyway.

Okay, I own it, I catch myself sighing sometimes. I think I'm just trying to buck myself up but I know it can be annoying. P doesn't moan and groan so much as she snores. She also frequently reports that she is tired. I know that is also depression speaking, but I can lose my cool a bit when it feels like it's just a way of bailing on participating in household things.

Ah, the joy of relationships, especially when you're both sick! Ugh to that.

No hurry on starting The Round House, my friend. I am happily entrenched in reading The Unwinding and figure I'll start the Erdrich mid-to-late week? Thursday? Ish?

Last week was pretty busy for us:

Monday - Our telephone company came out because our wifi router has been giving us issues. It's been automatically rebooting five to six times a day which is very aggravating. He replaced the "connection module on the outside box" and since then, we've only had one or two rebooks all week. MUCH better. He also suggested replacing the telephone wire in the basement between the connector and the router. MrMorphy can do this himself for about $10 - $15.

Tuesday - SRC came out for a quick inspection of a couple of the items the state wanted done (the crack in the basement wall and the rubble area they wanted covered in plastic.)

Wednesday - Huge load of laundry - We were down to the dregs, two weeks worth!

Thursday - While I was having my weekly meeting with my friend, the minister from my church, MrMorphy went off for his annual dermatology appointment. (His eye cancer was a melanoma.) He's all clear for another year and S. and I had a really good conversation about depression.

Busy busy!

I had a nice visit with my old boss/friend, P. He brought Chinese for lunch (lettuce wraps to share and beef chow mien for me) then we chatted for a good hour.

MrMorphy came later and we had a nice visit, too. He's been watching a bunch of archaeology videos about the first Americans and told me (a little too much) about it.

Other than my nurses, NAs, phlebotomists, and my doctor, I also saw OT, PT, and a psychiatrist. Oh, and a Medicare specialist. I've been moved to inpatient rather than observation status. This is a good thing.

Of course, the conversation came around to books and after I got the "what the most popular book right now?" question, I narrowed it down to mysteries she could take on vacation. I recommended Naked in Death, The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, and Monkeewrench.

I resisted going over three. It was difficult but I did it. You should be proud of me.

I'll be able to stay in rehab for three weeks. That's how long Medicare pays for it at 100%. After that it's $165 a day, but we can't afford even a day of that. I'll have to work my butt off and hope for the best.

Today is moving day. I'm headed over to rehab this afternoon. It's the same place I was in two years ago, so it'll be nice to be someplace somewhat familiar. (Who knows what they've changed.)

I rewatched White House Down last night. It was a pleasant way to pass the time as was finishing up Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for #hpchapteraday. It will be a few weeks before we can rewatch the movie though.

Morphy, I wonder if I worked a temp job there when I was a sweet young thing. I remember working at "Golden Valley Health Center" with the maintenance guys and cracking them up by putting in an order for "sweet balls" instead of "sweat balls" because I couldn't believe there would be an actual piece of hardware named that. Now that I'm not a sweet young thing, not surprised. People who name those things have dirty minds.

And as for that tasty, yummy book that Dillon enjoyed sooooo much, shhhhh... don't tell anyone. It was The Kite Runner.

I'm here. Having a bit of trouble staying awake. Partly because my CPAP has a part missing, partly, I think, because I'm having to be so much more active after being near bed bound for a month.

The first issue will be resolved tonight. We ordered a new one and it arrived today! Lickety split service!

The second issue will resolve slowly over time. My PT person will show up for the first time tomorrow and it's slowly getting easily for me to stand and walk in the house.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

I read Ella Minnow Pea yesterday and enjoyed it. It was clever. It was also relatable to today's politics in how it's all about the people in power rather than those they govern for.

I wasn't crazy about Ella Minnow Pea. Not because it wasn't good—it was very well done—but because it wasn't what I expected. I thought it would be very lighthearted and funny, like Thurber or T. H. White, but it turned out to be about a serious subject, even though it was handled in a humorous way. If I had gone into it expecting that, I probably would have liked it more.

Missing you again. Was so glad to know you were back home, and things were beginning to go right. I hope now you're just busy with PT, and maybe getting a chance to read a bit. I was less than thrilled with Ella, Minnow, Pea when I read it several years ago---I think I got tired of the "cleverness" of it before the alphabet was exhausted. Your comment "It was also relatable to today's politics in how it's all about the people in power rather than those they govern for" is spot on, though.

It is that time of year again, between Solstice and Christmas, just after Hanukkah, when our thoughts turn to wishing each other well in whatever language or image is meaningful to the recipient.
