Kafka's Metamorphosis DLE

The pricing for artist-signed DLEs is reaching a new level. Now it is $400! If I remember correctly, very recently the price was around $240.

Ya I will pass. As much as I would like to collect these artist series the price is getting out of hand. Who knows maybe the artist charges a premium for their work but for me I feel it's too expensive especially with a high limitation number.

Looks gorgeous but WHY is it so expensive?! I'm hoping that is a typo...

By the way, here is Chris' excellent review of the LEC edition:

https://booksandvines.com/2011/08/06/a-review-of-kafkas-metamorphosis-and-other-...

I have to say, the LEC illustrations never appealed to me. The EP illustration sure do, but at $400... :(

You're close. The first artist-signed DLE that I remember was Hound of the Baskervilles, and it is still for sale at $267. Each succeeding issue in the series has been a little more expensive, and I don't know if any of them have sold out. Hound is 260 pages and Metamorphosis is 160. I would not expect any of them to do well in the secondary market, so it might be worth the wait (but it might be a long one).

I should qualify my previous post by saying that my skepticism about price appreciation on the secondary market is not due to product quality. In fact, the two I own, Hound and Gilgamesh, are two of my most prized DLEs. My skepticism is due to the high initial price of the recent offerings and the large limitations.

Thanks for the history. They are probably all nice productions (assuming you like the illustrations), but the prices are becoming a significant deterrent.

EP has posted some new pics, and dang... looks amazing. Still can't believe it's $400. Ugh! Let's take some polls...

Vote : Do you plan, or are you considering purchasing this?

I know I would be tempted if this was around $300...

MEH no dice. Looks just like the other signed DLE's, actually reminds me of War of the Worlds but I will say the end papers looks awesome but not $400 awesome.

Honestly EP needs to come out with a knockout DLE similar to what Folio had with Mort. Fair pricing with low limitation. These DLE's they're coming out with I don't see selling out in years!

So an illustrated DLE of War and Peace would be about $3,500!

Today, for the first time ever, I looked at the Metamorphosis DLE. It's gorgeous! Insects on the endpapers!

I never realized it had such colorful, awesome illustrations (by modern artist Brian Despain). So, I placed an order.

Today, Dec 17, is the last day of free expedited shipping for Christmas, so that was a nice little shipping bonus.

I know it's really too expensive but I can't help but think a beautifully illustrated DLE like this is going to increase in value over the next few years once it sells out.

(Or that's my DLE addiction trying to justify things to my wallet.)

>15 susan4stars: I enjoy reading this story. I've been interested in this DLE as well. The design is superb. Please share your thoughts when you receive it.

Despite its astronomical price on a print run of 1200 there are only 87 left! So it’s decision time for those wanting to own this extraordinary literary art piece. I am actually considering.
