Genre search

After selecting a genre or series to search, I am unable to take it off the "Genre Search:" or "Series Search:" category on top (below the search box) so I can search all books in the library. Is there something I am missing?

I can delete the options on the left column (e.g. Format, Collections, Tags, Genre etc.) since there is an "x" on them after you select one.

Can an "x" be put on the top also?

Hi Mel4,

Sorry you're having trouble searching your catalog. I have a few questions to clarify your issue:

1. Are you running a basic search or an Advanced search within your catalog?
2. What's the exact search text (and field selection/s, if in Advanced) you're using?
3. What do you mean you can't "take it off" the search category below the search box? Can you include a screenshot?
4. "the options on the left column" – Sorry, do you mean the search facets? Those should be showing up on the right side of your screen, not the left.
5. Finally, what operating system and web browser are you using? I'd like to test this out on your account.

>1 Mel4:

Everything that happens in search is within the URL. Just give us the URLs you're having trouble with.

Hey Kristi,

Thanks for getting back to me. Hopefully my answers make sense

1. Used Basic search

2. I am using the link from the book's detail page:
e.g.
The Hunger Games
by Suzanne Collins (link)
Status The hunger Games (link)
Genres Young Adult (link)
Fantasy (link)
Science Fiction (link)

Collection Fiction (link)- used this link
Publication…...

3. Tried adding screenshot but can't put it in this box :(

4. Sorry I meant right not left :)

5. Tried Safari and Firefox

Sorry Tim. I saw this after posting. Please let me know if what I wrote makes sense

>3 timspalding: Sorry, Tim.

>4 Mel4: Gotcha! So, that's just the way the searches are displayed if you click various links within a Detail page. If you want to start a new search, just type that in the search box above, or open up the Advanced Search. Is there anything I'm missing here?

Hi, this is apparently a new question regarding genre search in Tinycat. I am unable to search by genre such as "Art & Design", or for that matter, any genre titles containing an ampersand. I can search for this genre within LibraryThing, but not in TinyCat. Is this by design? I have been trying a temporary bandaid by adding genre to tags in LibraryThing, but realize this is self-defeating in the long run. Thanks for looking into this.

>8 boyerjh: I just found a similar issue for special characters in tag searches on TinyCat. That's a bug we need to look at and fix. I'm adding the Genres issue to the report for developers to look at and will update here. Thanks for your patience in the meantime!

>8 boyerjh: This should now be fixed, by the way, just overdue for its 1-year anniversary! Phew. Thanks for your patience.
